So i want to join an RP and i found some sites but the qualifications confuse me. Please dont call me a n00b or anything like that im just curious. Whats power-playing, god-moding, and cannon characters? If theirs any other RP terms i should be aware of could you please let me know because i really dont want to sound like an idiot if i post in a new RP site and when posting in an RP is the point to make the paragraph describe my surrounds, feelings, and be typed like you were reading a book? If anyone knows of any beginner sites that would explain more please send me the links because i have time to dedicate to RPing but i just need to know more about it. Thanks for the help!

Hi!
I've got a few years of experience.
Power-playing/God-moding: They are virtually the same thing. This is when you take control of another person's own character. NPC's which are used temporarily and for the moment are alright to take control of. However, it is completely against the rules to write someone else's character's actions.
Say you are making your post and you're describing what's going on. If you are posting with someone, in your post you can't say something like "Bob (which is the other person's character) was hit by a ball." I hope you get the picture.
When in a fight scene, when two characters are fighting, you cannot control the opponent's character as well. You cannot say: "Jim (your character) went to hit Bob and hit him square in the jaw." The rule is that the person has the option whether or not they want Bob to be hit or not. So you might say something instead like this: "Jim went to hit Bob, aiming for his jaw." That way, you give them the option. That's power-playing and god-moding.
A Canon Character is an already made character. It could be a TV show character or a comic book character and etc. Generally, original role play sites (sites not based off of a movie, book, comic, or show) don't accept canon characters because they are not part of the story.

A canon character has to do with RP's dealing with established genres, like Harry Potter or Star Wars or something. A canon character would be a character that you don't actually make up yourself and already exists, like Harry Potter or Han Solo.
Power playing, I've not heard this term before. But maybe it is similar to God-modding... and the fact that no character can be all-powerful and know everything. Every character needs at least ONE flaw.
And if you are new to roleplaying and don't know how it all works yet, I wouldn't start your own forum yet. Perhaps just join up on one or two until you understand it all a lot better.
Perhaps if you looking for a beginner RPG forum, I would look through the Advertising board.

No problem! : )
Edit:
Just make sure the forum doesn't say that it's "very literate" or "advanced." That probably is a level that you are not up to yet.
