What type of video/graphic file .ext will work as a banner on proboards? I've designed a banner and made it a .gif but the resolution suffered. I made it in aftereffects- but never worked on any web designs or anything for the net.

.png will give you the best resolution but the file size is massive, as long as you optimise a jpeg properly it should be fine (File > Save For Web) - push the quality up.

My Banner has an animated text effect- where it flies onto the banner from camera prospective and has light rays bouncing off the text-- it's more of a video than a still picture .jpg-- I did find a option to render it as a .jpg sequence, but then I ended up with 120 seperate .jpg files. How about Flash? or .avi ? will they work-- I'm assuming now that - I'll be uploading whatever file to hosting site- then posting the URL where the Logo box is??? Or is there a script to replace the Board TitleBar with a Full banner? Sorry for so many -- stupid questions-- complete newbie here.

(I think) All programs can save as a .png. Flash and avi won't work, it has to be an image format I believe.

Flash, avi and indeed any video format won't work because they are video formats, PB only supports image formats.
You can code in a flash banner, but other than that go for an image format.
120 jpg files? What program? i'm stumped.

ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS CS3 now that I'm home on a hardline- I can get it uploaded my hosting service better. My after effects program had a render option for adobe flash especially for web banner size. The .png format rendered just like the .jpg sequence with several files banner000.jpg- banner256.jpg--- but they all seem to be linked somehow- when I click on the first-- the animation plays. I just don't know how that would upload?? then download+ the quality was grainy. To preview the finished flash banner- I had to download a .flv player-- some of the paid ads seem to be flash video and they are displaying fine.

First things first.. what graphics program(s) do you use? Use/ learning/ stumbling around/ and Have available are all different. Photoshop-- I'm not good with. AfterEffects- ok PaintShopPro9- for the easy stuff I'm better with that than PS. Lightwave-- I'm still building the bouncing balls, the Cow, and the cup and the flying 3D logo. ;D Maya- haven't opened yet 3DMax- not yet. Playing with Poser Bryce Daz 3D Adobe Illustrator is included with Adobe Production Premium Package-- but I've never even clicked on it to see what it does.

You said in your first post that the file-type you currently have this animation in is a .gif. Could you possibly post a link to this animation so we can take a look at it? Gif animations can be used on the board, but it can cause problems is the file size is too large. You said there were 120 some frames in it. This can most llikely be cut down substantially to make for a smaller file.

It's the .pgn version and the. jpg that rendered into individual frames. And I don't know how to make the animation a single file-- the flash looks the best but I tried it in the Logo box and as you stated-- no joy. the board is: drivers-lounge.proboards.comthe .gif is there at the top. here is the link to same as a Flash .flv file If you have flash codec on you computer. www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/1917801_fnlol/Comp1.flvIt's not a very good banner-- I just cooked it up in 30 minutes to see what kind of file I could get working up there. It's grainy like I said I didn't spend any time to smooth the animation or anything.

Hi! I see what you mean about that banner..I couldn't even copy it the first time I tried..I had to refresh the page several times before I could download the gif file. Once I was able to download it, I played around with it with my animator....only I think I may have made it worse instead of better. Anyway, I culled the frames down by 50%..(every other frame)..but I think that might have made it look choppy..even though I slowed down the animation speed as well. Then I compressed it before I saved it. This reduced the file size from over 5 megabytes to 1 MG..a huge difference! Here's what it looks like now: It looks pretty awful..I won' t argue that..but hey..I had a lot of fun messing with it! Also I wanted to say that as far as I know you can't embed any other graphic image into a header other than .jpg, .gif, .png..and maybe .bmp. Someone else might know of a way..so I'll turn this thread over to whoever else wants to take a stab at it!

What am I missing here-- there are flash video playing in the Ad banner- with the latest promotionals for scifi channel-- so how come the title bar won't support Flash Video?
