To tell the honest truth, the best way to fix this is to transfer everyone to another forum and you run it. The problems will continue as long as the admin doesn't log in. We've got that problem on one of the forums I'm on, so my friends and I ended up re-locating to a forum that I now run with one of my friends. I know how you feel, but there's not much else to be done other then to relocate.

if she admits being 12 then she lied about being 13 when she registered. She should be banned for that. regardless, you are the admin and can ban anyone you want (barring stupid reasons like race/gender/religion). If someone acts like a jerkoff then ban them. They have no admin. I didnt realize we were still talking about the same forum as the original poster.. this thread sorta had several forums mentioned..

I think I can consider myself lucky. Wowposter joined my forum, but didn't make one post. A member of my forum alerted me to his name and what he does, so I was able to ban him by his IP, username and email before he got to ruin my board. It is a shame what some people do for fun. Geeze.... his talent and time in posting could be used constructively.....

Just wanted to say thanks, the Admin has been in contact, and has appointed admin and a mod. But thanks for your help.

Sounds good. Glad you have got that sorted In regards to that member, they should be deleted, if you have the power to do that now?

Hi there, Thanks for all your help with this years ago. The AWOL admin did come back and appoint me as admin, however he didn't give me full administration abilities (I don't think he realised this). We're having some issues with images being hosted on a third party site that no longer hosts them, and as you can imagine, this makes the pages look clunky. There are also other things I'd like to do, like pay for an account that I don't feel compfortable doing unless I have full admin access. The admin guy hasn't been back since the time he appointed me as admin. Is there any chance someone could fix the access I have to give me full powers? I can link the thread where he talks about giving me admin access. The reason we don't want to up and move to a new thread is that we had a very active member pass away in 2009. Her parents and the rest of the members like to go and read her old posts, as it's quite comforting. I'm also concerned without full admin powers I am missing important messages from proboards. Any help would be appreciated. The link is here: babysittersclub.proboards.com/P.S. Sorry I had to log in as a guest, I couldn't link my account for some reason!

Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to make any changes to the forum settings for the admin. We cannot assume that he meant to give you more power than you have, and for security reasons we won't make any changes. Perhaps make a new forum and link to this one as an archive?

You really need to get in touch with that admin, if you can, and explain to him he can't just "give you admin status". Any forum needs an active root admin. If he's not going to be active, he needs to turn over the root admin position to someone else. That will require you (if you're that someone else) and him to come here to Support and enlist the help of the admins here to transfer ownership of the forum to you. There are no bandaids for this. If it isn't done, there are going to be problems. You can count on it.

You can still start your own forum, which would be better for you and give you 100% control and link to important things in the current forum now, and put a Link to your New Forum in the old one. Even if all your current members make the move to your new forum, this forum will remain for Her Family member's go to and view what she posted, it won't just go away. And at least in a new forum you could fix and control what is giving you problems in this one. I and a friend had a forum dumped on us being an Admin and the owner never returned less than a month after it was created and we had done all the work there. We removed all our work leaving that forum empty, the owner of it still hasn't returned and his posted email address there is Fake. I'll never run a forum like that again where the owner won't give any kind of input and refuses any and all contact. So I started my own

The problem with starting another forum and leaving the current one as a link for archive arises if the admin of the current forum decides to return long enough to delete said forum. If it were me, I'd be hunting down that admin and explaining to him how things work here at ProBoards. If he isn't going to be active on the forum there's no reason not to transfer ownership. At least, there's not one I can think of.

Hi everyone, thanks for your advice. I have actually tried to contact the admin a few times, but all I have to go by is an email address from 2006 which doesn't seem to be used much. I doubt very much that they will delete the current forum, but this is definitely a concern. Thanks for all your advice!
