I advertise a lot here but can't seem to nail any members. I think it may be our presentation but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any advice on that end? It's pretty frustrating. Honestly? No. Advertising here is not really so much in the presentation, but being different enough that you are worthwhile. Are you an RP forum? If so, look at the other boards advertised and you will see that most of them are as well. It's hard to stand out among the crowd when so many advertise similar things. Your best bet might be to advertise here in your signature and post in other boards like GT so people get to know you and get interested in what other forums you have going. Or, you might focus on advertising through Google and what not. All-in-all, I doubt it is your advertising style that is not getting you members.

I also put my site on google and that has helped alot with getting my site viewed . I have 3 or 4 members who found my site that way Well my forum is about a singer and if someone were to want to look for a forum about her on google mine would come up first. that helps a lot. right now we have 160+ members Try to elaborate a bit on your individual techniques, and how they may or may not benefit, something that may help someone looking through the thread. As of now you're falling a bit short of the requirements. Please check out the rules. ;] I advertise a lot here but can't seem to nail any members. I think it may be our presentation but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any advice on that end? It's pretty frustrating. It depends on your advertising mediums, how you come across, and how much you stand out. For example, if you have just another thread in the Advertising board here, it may not get very much notice at all. However, if you post in GT with a nicely-made banner image in your sig for example, that would probably get more attention because it stands out more, and is more unique. Once members actually get there, they need to see things that they like in order to join, so when you change your board around, modify it from the perspective of a new member looking for information and things they might like, not someone who is familiar with everything already.

Here's some of the ways I advertise. First i keep a guest ad board always open on my site, then post my ad on other people's guest ad boards. Most forums have them now, that I have seen. They're useful because they help everyone collectively by getting their sites exposed on a lot of other sites really easily. It's easy to go around posting your ad on these, but watch out to read the rules on their ad boards, sometimes they're a little different. And I find it helps to have a few different versions of your ad code wise. Non proboards sites sometimes are coded a little different {like some are straight HTML others just use different board codes} so make your ad compatible, so it'll still look good anywhere. I heard somewhere that Google indexes your site higher the more other sites link to it so the guest ads help this way too I would think, especially if you post on lots of different kinds of sites. Topsites can help too but be careful, some go by hits and others go by votes. I don't like the vote ones...too easy to manipulate. Go by the ones that count hits because think about it, everyone who goes to your guest ad board to linkback give you a unique hit, even if they don't join they up your hits for the day. Oh and make sure your subject in your ad {if on a forum} is catchy and says something eye catching, that's the first thing people will see! If the subject is boring no one will wanna click it Then don't make the whole ad just a giant block of text. I see this sometimes. No ones gonna want to read that whole thing! They want to see what the ad is about quick and then decide if they want to click and see. Finally, it's a lot of work to advertise. You have to keep doing it or the hits die away fast. Usually in a couple of weeks. But if you make it a habit to just link back on whatever guests post, I think it gives a little motivation to do a little bit of advertising every day. It helps a lot, just a few minutes a day, instead of putting it off because you don't want to spend a few hours. That's what I find works. Oh and put a poll on your site asking members how they found you. That'll help you find out where your active members came from.

The code on the very first page is that supposed to be posted in the global headers/footers? Also, which one is it supposed to go in? Does it matter if you post the code in the global header or the global footer?
Also, I've been reading and the conversation seems to have turned around on itself. I clicked on some of these links to check out exactly how to get a site up on them, and then I start reading the conversations and people seem to be saying that trying to get an add on the google search engine or yahoo is useless because it takes so long and it might not even work and you'll just get spammed.
I apologize for seeming so foolish but I'm completely new to thsi method of attempting to advertise a site this way. A friend of mine advertises their site through Meta tags and it works, I'm on the site myself and I see the results but I'm just so confused on how this is supposed to work.
I understand the code itself. Is that code needed if you go to say the google link thing and try to get an add up there? Or is it just a way to do html adding? Once more I apologize if I'm confusing you guys but I honestly have no clue what you all are talking about. Whats this Goayb thing you keep talking about?
I've been making forms for years now but I just heard of this method from a friend. I'm sick and tired of all my forms just sitting there now matter what I do to them. I advertise and affiliate like mad, I make sure everything is sleek and organized and attractive to the eye and I try to pick topics for an rp which aren't 100 percent mainstream.
I've noticed there are a ton of twilight sites out there and also a lot of kingdom hearts, and demon vs. angel type things. and vampire vs werewolves type things. People to me, don't seem like they will register on as many sites as they use to. They pick on or two boards and stick to them.
I pick things which aren't really mainstream though some people cosider them past prime but I still like them. I try to make something different but people just seem disinterested. Its very disheartening.
Long story short, can someone please break all this down into lame-man's terms for me please? I'm just so confused.

Berserk~
While I haven't set up the google or yahoo search yet, the admin of one board that I'm staff on says that it does work. So don't be scared off of it just because some people don't think it does...they are probably people that use a very popular theme for their RPs. It happens, especially when they base it off of a movie or book.
I believe, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, that the tags go in the Global header/footer and they're just for the Html tags. I haven't tried them yet myself but I plan doing so today at some point. If you are still having trouble getting your ads off the ground (so to speak) PM me and I'll see what I can do to help you out. xD I'm kinda curious about your site now.
Alot of the problems that I've been seeing with original RPs (like mine) is that people don't know enough about the story-line so they don't search for it when they are looking for RPs to join. Try adding more or changing the Meta-tag words to some of the more popular concepts (like if you have them werewolves or vampires) or something like that if they aren't already set there. That should pull in more people when they're doing random searches using the search engines. Another tag word that I don't think people use very often (and I could be wrong here again) is 'original'. if it is indeed an original plot and characters that would probably help pull in people. I know that I've searched for 'original RPG's' when looking for a site to join.
Good luck!
