I hate it when people post in my shout box advertising their site. It is just plain rude. I would never go to anyones site and do that. I look to see if they have a place to advertise and post there. I have one on mine and I made it so you do not have to be a member to apply. I do make them apply only so I know they don't use profanity on my site, so I will know if they would like to be an affiliate, and if so which page they would like to be placed on. I do require them to place my banner on their site if they want to be an affiliate but not to advertise.

kay, i will answer it though, you just copy the url and paste it in a post. Please read the rules here before posting. I hate it when people post in my shout box advertising their site. Advertising in peoples shoutbox's or on their forums in a place other then ad advertising board is spam. People see this as spam and it really turns them off from the froum being spavertised. If a board is spamvertised enough, it gains a reputation for it, which can harm the forum. So in short, advertising by spamming on other peoples' forums and shoutboxes is not a good way of advertising. More times then not it can harm your forum more then help it.

those links are useless, all need pay or download something. i dun wana waste time with that. i want something quick and free. Umm, those links are all providing a free service. If sone of them has changed to a pay only service, PM me and I'll remove it. There are advertising forums, hosted by proboards. I can think of atleast 5 proboards advertising sites, which run off affiliation swaps. So google proboards advertising in the proboards main page.

I've made mine non advertising now, by affiliation only. People come to your forum to advertise & leave. Some find this annoying while others welcome it. As you can see by my statement I find it very annoying!

We have been really lucky this week. Disney the film makers published an article to which they added our main website. Since then we have been innundated with loads of new members and countless guests. We do not let guests post, however they have viewed our forum and started to join.

As you can see by my statement I find it very annoying! Ive even gone as far as to remove affiliation as well, as some members still join only to affiliate then leave, also ive found that some people put my logo in their affiliates table, and then after I have added them they removed it. Google has been the best way of advertising, yes it takes months to get listed, and a year to get a really good listing, but we are now getting new members every day, dozens of hits from google, msn, yahoo etc which is great.

Your site doesn't benefit from them knowing your private information surely. Yes I find when I add people, they take me off. I'm always concious of advertising as a guest on people's boards, I don't want to upset the admin, so I always link back. Dunno why cos they allow you to post as a guest in the first place, but I do it for common courtesy!

Google, yahoo and sites such as 123 submit and submit express do NOT ask for name addresses, phone Nos etc, some sits do, but they are usually not worth submitting to, you also sometimes find that personal information is optional, i have never had anyone contact me as a result of putting an address in a seach engien data base.

Still I prefer not to do it & you just repeated everything I already said. It can also be time consuming but it pays off. Meta tags are sometimes a good idea, the more words hopefully the better. Does anyone find having some boards offline (available to guests) help them to index better (ie: celebrities, artists etc)

im not sure what you mean by an 'offline board' if its offline how could a seach engien find it?
I agree, metal tags are great, however make sure you dont repeate the keywords in it, as your site can be ignored by seach engiens if you have too many of the same words. My advice would be to add 1 really important keyword to the metal tags rather than hundreds, you will find you get better results. I tired both methods (1 key words and lots) and the 1 keyword one worked much better than adding lots.
All the best
Andy

my forum keeps getting new members every week, it's great, i think it might be from advertising on google, yahoo, other boards, etc. Any way, i love to get new members, it's so cool. Advertising is a great way to get mroe members,

i made it a rule that you can only affiliate and advertise if you are a registered member.
You are allowed only to advertise PROBOARDS links in the Cbox, no other. someone called PISTB is really bugging me when they advertise their advidgamers site, and also complain about our colouring.

I've found a couple of effective ways of advertising my Proboard. first, I have found the search engines to be very helpful. The very first thing I did after I got things up and running was to submit my URL to all of the major search engines, followed by all of the smaller ones. My forum has now been open for one month, and at this point I am listed in all of the major search engines-even Google! And my guest and member counts have risen as a result. Anotehr effective avenue is advertising in mailing lists. I advertised in Yahoo Groups, MSN Groups, Google Groups, and MySpace Group and have gotten numerous members from each. Word of warning about this method: you should make sure you advertise only in groups relative to the topic of your forum-otherwise your message may be considered spam, which is a bannable offense in email groups.

I advertize by using this 4 million member forum. I send a very persuading topic to the user, if I see that they can roleplay well. They join my forum usually when I send this. If I put in effort I could probably get in 40 members a day by using that method. =]

I just encourage members to spread the word of the site around, and it seems that they usually do it, as most sites I've made quickly grow.
Although it can get annoying at times when I'll get random disgruntled admin popping around squawking at me because someone on my site advertised on their site and they refuse to believe that it could have been anyone but the primary admin........
I also believe that if you advertise on other sites, you should allow other sites to advertise on you. After all, I've gotten advertisements before by random guests asking to join "their" site, yet when I look at the actual site, they have some sort of Hitler-esque rant in their rules or whatever going on about not having any sort of advertisement anywhere lest you be banhammered straight to Auschwitz, etc, etc...... So….since I encourage people to advertise for me, I always keep a special board dedicated to other people being able to advertise their own sites. ^_^
