I have pretty good success by creating facebook pages and groups and using them to drive trafic to my forums.
Facebook is easier for folks at first because they are always on there and looking at their friends posts and links.
But, lets take a look at Facebook's weakness. It just one big stupid long thread. Un organized. On the motorcycle pages I visit on facebook, the same damn tech questions always get asked 4-5 times per month because the other 100 posts about that topic are buried somewhere way way down at the bottom of that long stupid Facebook page thread.
Facebook is eyecandy. It's meant to grab attention. So, I adapted and started using that and Proboards/Forums.net's ability to easily share good posts from my forums onto my FB pages and also on other facebook groups.
I share a post from my forum with a good looking pic or an eyecatching topic line on a few FB pages and groups, including my own, and bam, I get 3-6 new members ea time. People create FB groups on a certain topic and other people interested in that topic visit that page, see our shared posts and then click on them and visit our forums.
Then, there is the other weakness of facebook. People visit FB to be entertained. Then, they go somewhere else to learn. The trick is to use Facebook to attract those people.
Organize your forum in the right way, and people will join when they visit. And then let em continue to visit and post on the FB pages and groups. They will see that their post yesterday is long gone and buried in a long FB thread. But on your forum, it's organized on it's topics board still for the entire community to see and comment on.

Was who banned? This thread isn't discussing banning; nor, is it discussing anyone in particular. I really don't understand your question. Its old nevermind it.

I have advertise at almost every other forum that is in the same genre as mine, i jumped from 0 to 8 members (all of them have not posted at all), i also post every day at my forum to show guest that the forum is alive, but i think it will be some time before it will become more active.

I feel like it's way harder to find members than it used to be. Seems like there aren't as many active forums, either. Is this generation fading away from forums now that things like Instagram and Facebook have taken over life? I mean, DOES ANYONE READ ANYMORE? I find this too, it seems social media has greatly taken away from forums, which is disappointing because personally I think forums are better, with facebook the posts don't stay, with forums they can stay forever.

I Personally think that having a advertisement (Such as a logo) in your siggy really helps.

I think the best places to advertise are the advertising boards here on the support forum. I also think trading affiliate banners with other forums is a great way to gain members for both forums, I think it's also helpful to put your forum link in your signatures and profiles. I think if admins work together both forums can succeed.

I Personally think that having a advertisement (Such as a logo) in your siggy really helps. I don't know if a logo in a signature would be more effective than text. As long as you can fit the advert in the signature without making it bigger than your post (a major turn-off, in my opinion), I wouldn't be opposed. Text signatures work just as well as signatures with a logo.

Yes text signature work well too but some people just have their forums/threads name and its not as noticeable which isn't very helpful. I personally feel logos/banners draw more attention.

The one site I have been on for years has used many different ways to keep bringing new people in. Advertising on other forums has by far been the most successful and no particular genre has been a leader however we have gotten members to join from Facebook, Twitter, by mentioning the site in real life, We are still trying to get Google+ to work but so far it is the only social media we have tried that has not helped at all. Over the years advertisements on other sites have not been as successful however we still do get a few from time to time and I know one of our admins posts on here from time to time mostly bumping the advertisement he placed on here years ago.
Our sites owner even suggested placing fliers in our communities as it is something no one has really ever tried and I have thought about doing it at my local retro gaming store as there are a lot of fans of the theme of our site that go there. I will not lie being primarily based on games that came out almost 7 years ago makes it hard to find new people but I still place ads everywhere I can in hopes of drawing more members to our site.

Google and Yahoo/Bing Webmasters help index your site for free. Just don't be fooled by the guest count because most of those are their bots.
