For me, naming my board was easy. I knew the name was unique from having used it on a different Message Board Provider, it let the members know what the name was, and our URL only uses the initals from what the board actually is. It has made it easy for our members to remember.
When you chose a name, try to keep it short and simple but also unique. Like in my case, using the initals of what the board name is on the banner, people can come and find it easy. Our board is for Gay Christians, but the title doesn't include the word Gay or anything similar, and I've had guests and new members say they found our board on a google and could enter it from work or home without anyone knowing the topic is about Gays. It has worked for us, and allowed members who might not have joined if I used the subject itself as the board name to feel comfortable joining.
Try not to use a name that is already associated with numerous boards out there whether it is proboards or any other service provider. Try to make it something in keeping with your subject matter, but still unique.

^ You just reminded me, funnily enough I get a few referrals back to my forum from people searching the forum name NOT my URL. Something catchy & unique is a good idea, not all the same like for example 'A Harry Potter Forum'

^ You just reminded me, funnily enough I get a few referrals back to my forum from people searching the forum name NOT my URL. Something catchy & unique is a good idea, not all the same like for example 'A Harry Potter Forum' For example, the name of my Proboards is Vanessalove's Forums; since no one else uses that name, I do so that it'll be easy to find. vanessalove.proboards70.com/I don't think you are allowed to advertise here anymore than anywhere else that is not the Advertising Board. I know why you did it, but I don't think it is allowed. As for being easy to find, that is presuming people know what the content is about. What is your forum about? Does the name of the forum fit the content? If so, then yes, it will be easy to find. If it is a name no one else has, but relates to something completely different, people might never find it at all. To me, the forum name should always coincide with the content of the forum.

Well, it should of course be unique. Something like "Hogwarts Academy" for a Harry Potter forum won't cut it. However, something like "Hogwarts School of Wizardry" or something similar would work. Also, numbers in the URL is a bad idea unless it is something like 411, 101, etc. Even though those numbers may get you the name you wanted with the numbers, it makes you look like a noob. (no offense) Lastly, keep it short. something like (for a URL) "thelatestcelebritynews" is too long. Something like "celebnews" would be better.

Well... I took up my site name by memory. My friend was talking about how egotistical my cousin was... so my link for my site is eg0t1st1cal.proboards52.com.... and I made the plot based on being egotistical. I changed up the site name a little bit by changing it from egotistical to perfect, but i thought it was too plain so i fixed it up by going to dictionary.com and i clicked onto theasaurus. Then I put in the word 'perfect' something simple, and the theasaures popped up with FLAWLESS. that's how i got the name for my site... come up with a simple word then flare it up!

what I do for a name is I think about what i want my forum to be about. then i name it after my idea. sometimes I use a play-on-words, but usually I only just name it after a place, person, or idea. a good noun, so to speak.

Hello, please do not post here unless you have a productive post that contributes to the discussion. If you are wishing to do a greeting perhaps the board in GT would be more to your liking. Please make sure you read the rules of the boards, so that your time here will be much smoother. Thank you

I find it quite easy to name a board. My strategy is to think out in detail what it'll be about, then take the name out of that. For instance, my first and best forum was one I knew I wanted to make. It was to be set in the middle of a Warriors fan-fiction my best friend and I wrote. Two eye-catching details about that fan-fic? It was set in the past, and ThunderClan was called LightningClan. Therefore, the board is When Thunder Was Lightning.

Naming my board was easy, and, I got it through this process:
Plan your board beforehand, and think of a theme. Make sure the name refers to this theme.
E.g: 'Star Wars - The New Planet Hifcon' with the URL as starwars234 isn't very good, although the board may be good.
Planned earlier, the URL could have been starwarshifcon or even hifconstar, or something like that, because 'Hifcon' is a word unlikely to have been used before, so original names appear.
This means that people who try to remember the URL, can, which inevitably brings publicity when they show it to their friends.
Often making up a random word helps with naming, such as 'Hifcon'

I generally try and think of a 'catchy' name that hasn't been used at all. Usually it takes me a while to think of one, and I try and browse google to make sure it hasn't been used a lot if I do get an idea for a forum name. Like..for my HP forum, I decided to go with "Harry Potter Adventures". I wanted it to be specific, but also have a general feel to it so I wouldn't be forced to stick with one 'era' in the HP world.
For my Star Trek forum, I went with something "Trekkish". The phrase "Resistance is Futile" is used by the Borg in the series. I tried to theme my forum around the Borg so that the name I chose did the forum justice.
Also, sometimes I will use song titles as insipiration, it all depends. Song titles sometimes have catchy words or phrases and that helps. Also, some people may even recognize it because of the song title. Anyway, that is what I think about whenever I am trying to come up with a name for a forum.

This is going to quite hard but I'm willing to listen to suggestions. My forum is a miture of Animals of farthing Wood, Ginga Densetsu wed and TLK. At the moment, it's called the world of Paladin but I'm not to happy with it and I'd like to change it. what do you think would be a sutiable name for it?

I think that the name should fit the topic of the board. For example, calling a board about evil vampires taking over the world and making humans their slaves shouldn't be called "Rainbows and Sunshine". Also, it should be original and catchy, but not overly so. I've seen a lot of boards that try so hard to be unique that the forum name doesn't fit with the content.

I run a fishing forum and many forums either have hooked, action, bass, you name it some where in the title. I wanted something totally different. So i came up with the Longitude and latitude of my home town and the lake i live on.
42\80 is the longitude & latitude.
Hence Fishing fourtey two eighty. The fourtey has the E in they're purposely.
I get allot of people ask me what does it mean. When i tell them they are like....OHHHHH! Thats really neat....or cool....lol.....
