The OP writes that one should strive to gather most of the stuff for new members in the top board(s). I've also read that one should sort the boards in order of popularity, e.g. placing the most visited one(s) first. I have tried to compromise and also added another variable to the equation, namely starting with the heavier, deeper subjects and ending up with games/light entertainment. I also hide some of the least used boards in "The Basement" and bring them out from time to time just to see if new members like them better than the old ones.
