Word of Mouth (Best Form of Advertising?)

But in my case Word of Mouth just might not be the trick.I will tell you why!Because people here don't use internet everyday and wouldn't be interested in partcipating in Message Boards like these!So I guess the best (and the only) way for me would be online advertisement!I dont know what would be the BEST way of advertising online except for registering your boards to Google and so on Search Engines!

Well, you can still ask people you know to join your forum even if they don't get on everyday, it is much better to have them come some of the time over none of the time. You will never know until you try. I know a lot of people who don't get on the internet everyday and I have taken the risk on them, some said no and some said yes, I still am glad to have them posting on my board. I do like word of mouth, it is so much fun to ask your friends to come on over to your forum sometimes. Maybe even people you meet and only get to know in real life for a day or two. It helps you keep in touch with people.

I think its the best way to advertise, but probobly the hardest. For a successful word of mouth type of advertisment, you need to motivate others to start. If you reward them or something, then they could make it happen. Like all ways of advertisement, you cant just tell someone to join and they'll automaticly do it. You need to try to make a way for them to join, kind of like a strategy.

Word of mouth in the real world is a bit difficult. Here, people will laugh at you for being a part of an RP fourm, so I've so far only told one person about it, and he joined. That's all fine and good, but really, not many people care. If you have one that is about Christianity, like many people here do, then it's a lot easier because people can relate to that and will want to join. However, for other things it's tougher. A lot tougher.

Word of mouth is really the best way. But you can refine the process. A awesome way to use this is to email a cousin from Florida. (Well, not that specific) That is what I'm going to do. That way, I can have an A-Splode Club in Florida.
Well, some forums are like honey to flies. Example: If you create a Zelda forum and talk about it on another one, then expect at least one person to check it out. I might also try affiliates too. Advertising the games on your forum works. Like I'm going to create a fighting game that I half-stole from a non-proboards forum. I can use that to drive my members to get the word out about my forum. OR I could use my new Blogette system. Either way, make your forum cool, get people to tell about it. Try to advertise it. I just started proboards, so if you find anything out of the order, blame nobody.

Ok i found a few places on the net where i could advertise my Forum , one is The Free ad Forum , the others are LYMH Leave your message Here , aaa.livedoor.jp Japanese Image Boards - The Society for the Study of Modern Image , you see a building or a tree or a bunch of nonsence spam links , state something on topic and drop your url , this is tricky because you do not know what the next poster will post could be anything and unless you remember witch board it was you'll never see it again , you can not delete your posts on livedoor either unless your rejestered
so chose a board with decent people , i learned the hard way by posting boards where porn was you'll get creepy people at your Forum posting porn links causing all the staff to work harder to remove it , it's also not good for Forum reputation if you post and the people after you or before you post porn images , i posted my friends link we got tons of Guests , at one point our forums got over 200 guests nobody was posting , i got a warning . but still thats the best way i could find to get mass guests .*>*qc

I agree that word of mouth is possibly the best way to advertise. I know alot of my members simply told their fellow HP lovers about my forum and all of a sudden I had more activity and tons more members. I have also advertised on other forums, but word of mouth is by far the best way to go about it .

You never know, just ask them. I have gotten a few extra members from asking my friends to join. I have also gotten a few members from people that I met at places like conventions and stuff. It is true that word of mouth is the best form of advertising. You can get members that will be better friends to you on your forum like that, especially if it is your own friend.

Less friends join , but the members we get , not all of them post , i can get some to join , how to get the posters is what i,m trying to get done , word of mouth still is the best way , while we have had a few friends join and at least they make posts. QC

Advertising on Google is great and all, but there is nothing better then one person telling another person how cool of a ProBoard they found, and suggest they check it out.

Now, admins, as a result, you must be kind and fair to your members. Word of mouth may get them there, but if the admins and staff are not going out of their way to make them feel welcome, then they will leave.

It is very important to make new members feel welcome, and to make them feel like they are part of the group, and not a lost soul on a board with a clique.

Ive done that friend stuff and well it didnt seem to work at all.

I really dont know how someone can get so many posts a day.

I suppose with a forum, what you need once a member GETS there, is a loving, welcoming community. But, without an actual idea, even that can fail, right? If the idea for a board is simply to...chat, can it survive?
