I posted in one forum and the thread got moved to another sub-forum which had only 4 posts in it this year. So the mods in their supreme wisdom moved it to a dead sub-forum which virtually nobody visited, much to my annoyance. It is arrogant goose stepping mods like that which ruin forums, who is the forum for anyway? The mods or the members? Had I wanted to post in that forum I would have, I didn't. If I post something it is so that it will be read and replied to, not left to die a death. I really do not like such an autistic approach to having everything in the right box. Of course I ended up getting a days ban for a trying to argue my point. This is the point, if you don't like my thread don't reply to it, if you think it should be in another area start one yourself their. I would add the thread receive some response of abusive type of nature "is this a wind up", because their ridged minds could not see it's validity. The mods of course sided with those people, I complained about their responses and they reminded, yet my criticism of their responses was removed. Just typical. There was nothing constructive or on topic in their posts, just attacks on the validity of the thread (and hence me). You would think they had better thing to do. Your wording gave me the impression that your post was and is a pet peeve. I disagree with you.

I banned a guy today. New member, he wanted to post a service manual that Yamaha charges $90.00 for. This would be illegal due to copyright laws and Yamaha could shut me down so I explained Copyright laws and warned him not to even hint about it ever again. He wrote me right back and offered to sell it on Ebay and give me half of the revenue if I let him post an ebay link in the forums. I banned him without even replying. IP too. What is it today with young people not being able to follow directions? I am also an employer in my day job and post detailed instructions on how to apply, and almost everyone under 26 ignores the instructions and just sends resume's, no cover letters, no job title in subject line... They are probably sitting at home wondering, why don't he call? What is it today with young people not being able to follow directions?

What is it today with young people not being able to follow directions? Now you're lumping everyone under X years old into a category. People can read/understand instructions. Some young people can comprehend. It's those who just jump right in and abuse the rules that are going to get a few warnings and a swift permaban off a forum.

Hmmm...... could you perhaps be a bit biased being female yourself? Just seem a bit odd to have 100% of bans being males. Why do you think that is yourself? If you think I'm being sexist, that's not my thing. Each one of those people did something that resulted in bans (at least on my forum). Let's count the ways: - One guy posted racially insensitive remarks about people in general (won't repeat here). - One guy came over from a forum that he was banned from, and we found out he was banned through what I think is Encyclopedia Dramatica. He posted things over and over again, we told him to stop, he didn't listen. - One guy played the part of a racist. Or something close to it. He changed the subject of a simple thread to "let's bash this guy for no reason other than the color of his skin". - One guy lied to our (collective) faces about being bullied. Short story: He deleted his account, banned me from his forum, and accused me of allowing bullying to happen. ... So I'm not sexist. I know when trouble starts when I see it. Well there you go, you got banned from another forum, obviously unfairly, but the guy who was banned from another forum, obviously that was a fair ban? These things tend to be a matter of opinion, why would he say he was being bullied if he wasn't? I am pretty sure from his point of view he was being bullied and you failed to do anything about it. So basically he "posted things over and over again" and presumable you read them over and over again? Why?

They are probably sitting at home wondering, why don't he call? Most employers don't reply anyway. Why go to all that effort? They have gone to the trouble of spending time and money applying, many people are forced to apply for jobs they do not want, so they just go through the motions. If you sound that picky young people probably know they don't stand much chance, and as I say it may not be a job they really desire, so why bust a gut going for a job you do not think is particularly suitable? Often you are better off not getting the job if it is the wrong job for you. Employers who sound really demanding are not very attractive to young people. In general people do not like being ordered about.

If you want the money, you do the work. It has been like that since time began. You have the right to chose who you apply to for work, but they expect the job done to their requirements. That's Life. It doesn't matter if you accept it. It is what it is.

Not too sure what you are talking about really "pet peeve", but anyway look you with your sexist "womenonly" id, attacking 50% of the population for no reason. Which post are you referring to? The one I made here or the one I refered to in the forum I got banned form. Speaking of that forum, the person who started the trouble is still having a snipe at me even though I have been banned, commenting on how the thread which I started has become an "interesting and adult discussion", but of course thread was always and interesting an adult discussion, at least until she made that childish immature baiting off topic comment. And of course the mod who banned me joined in the "fun". Just so typical of what you see on so many forums, an established member starts baiting and stirring up trouble and the rest of clique join in, including the mods. All members are equal but some are more equal than others. “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

Most young people have higher aspirations than being a mindless drone, they want a life worth living. The employee didn't produce his CV for laugh. The employee is showing initiative in finding a flexibly minded employer, he is looking for making better use of his life than mindlessly following detailed instructions, and good luck to him!!

News flash: NO ONE, young or old, wants to be a mindless drone. But the employer won't pay for long unless the job requirements are met to their satisfaction. It is the way of the world. You sound very demanding to me. Good luck with that!

News flash: Nobody wants to be worked into an early grave either, there is little point doing a job you do not enjoy, better off pushing up the daisies. If the only attribute an employer is looking for is the ability to mindlessly follow instructions it is not the job for me, it suggests he is looking for someone without a brain, and that isn't really me. Maybe he will have to settle for older people with zero ambition. I am not at all demanding, I am very easy going, but I expect to be treated with respect.

Well there you go, you got banned from another forum, obviously unfairly, but the guy who was banned from another forum, obviously that was a fair ban? He banned me from his board before I banned him from mine. I got a PM from someone on my board who said he (the banned user in question) had been excluding certain things from the truth - he sent death threats out to another board's staff (not Proboards, and that board is archive-only now). I went on his board to clear the truth, and I found out that he had banned me from his board because I allowed his "tormentors" on my site. The whole thing is messed up, and it wasn't my fault. So no, it's not "fair" when the other person acts like a child instead of talking it out like an adult. And those are four separate people I was talking about. Would you like to read "I declare technical wins because both contestants had overbids, but X had a closer overbid than Y" on a regular basis? Thought not.

Sorry, wildmaven and kronks. I got a little snippy. I know better than that. I apologize to you both. Getting back to the topic of what makes a forum die, I've been thinking about some of the popular forums of the past that are no longer with us. On many of those, posters quit posting. Every once in a while someone will mention that they miss "the good old days and all the people that no longer post". I've wondered if perhaps the missing members haven't got involved in real life (schooling, jobs, relationships, family, etc) and gotten out of the habit of posting. That in turn means there isn't as much for other posters to respond to, so they don't take part either. If few people post, conversation dies. If enough people are away for long enough, there isn't enough to sustain the board and it becomes a ghost town. Is that too simple?

Sometimes the simplest of reasons is also the most accurate.
Life is an evolution. We grow. And in that growing, many times it takes us away from what was, in order to move onto what's next.
Many times, it's no one's fault why a forum dies. It's just life taking another path along one's journey.

I would like for this thread to go back to its original purpose.
1. solarbronco Link to page 54 for his entire post. support.proboards.com/thread/301626/forum-die?page=54 Below is solarbronco's sentence. "....What is it today with young people not being able to follow directions?"

My original reply was and is a generalization. wo said: People do not always want to comply.
2. He said, she said and they said. Taking wording out of its original context. Repeating over and over. Ranting. Being peeved about this and that. Generalizations and so on.
