Personally, I say as long as you can keep up with the forum, without neglecting it, or it dying, then take as many as you want, just don't let your social life drown because of a forum. I don't really know how to elaborate on this. =/

Hmmm. Why couldn't all that spare time be used to learn coding and methods for making your ONE forum better? Why create five nice boards instead of one exquisite board that shows that a lot of work and thought was put into it? If you have so much time then use it to become better at what you do and build a forum that speaks of a devoted admin instead of five that say "Yea, I have plenty of time on my hands so I decided to fiddle with a few other things."Perhaps there is truth that some people have the time and skill to handle more than two forums(my magic number), but I believe that extra time could be better spent becoming an ace of the trade where they may have only been a jack. If I myself tried to handle multiple forums then I would not have learned the skills to do what I can now because I would have been busy with the minor simple tasks. To bring it to a sum, take your time and invest it into becoming an artist instead of a doodler.

Well, I personally only have one forum that I myself made, own, etc. I am a co-admin on 2 boards a moderator of two, and belong to about 9 including this one...I could probably handle making maybe one more board...but it is hard enough to get members to one board let alone the ones you are co-admin to or moderator to. Let alone add another or 40 more on to that. I do agree that it depends on how much a person can take and how active they can be, and that everyone is different in how many boards they could handle owning if any at all. However, I do think that you only need 1 forum of any topic/roleplay storyline. Meaning that you do not need to own more than 1 Harry Potter Roleplay Forum, or 1 Animals R Cool topic Forum. I understand wanting a roleplay for each of your hobbies/interests, but more than one site about hang gliding in the gulf coast is all you need no matter how much you love hang gliding in the gulf coast.

How many forums is too many?
I think it depends on what kind of forums you have, what are you discussing there?

How many forums is too many? I think it depends on what kind of forums you have, what are you discussing there? Hi, Welcome to D:YP. Please remember your posts should be at least 4 sentences long. Anything less shows that not enough thought was taken in the post, and is most likely not productive towards the conversation.

I know an admin who has 8 forums! It is really crazy, sometimes I have to wait three days for her to post when she is on actually quite a lot. There is a wolf one, a horse one, a vampire one, a werewolf/vampire/shapeshifter/ one. It is really crazy...
I have one forum that is totally mine, I have a Co Admin I trust. I am Admin on another forum with my sister, she is almost the Main Admin. Thats it, then I have some of my own forums.
I think 2 forums is fine if you have the time for it, but of course, one is always better.

I think two or three is a good number depending on the person. I've seen some people that should only have about one, and I might of been one of them at some point. You get wiser from experience though you know. Currently, I still have my most successful board so far. That one is rather easy to keep up since it's a rather tight knit group of us. Let's just say the members are understanding because we all have are things that come up every now and then.
As far as the second one I have going at the time being, how I see it it can only help my muse. Somehow Western's seem to help my muse keep going a lot of the time. Just the same I'm doing it with a friend that I know from my other board. Hoping things will go good as usual.
I think the trick though with having more than one forum is getting one established and getting to know what is required for that one board before you decide to take on another. Then when you take on the second one you need to find someone to do it with you, especially if you run the first one on your own. That person that helps you out though needs to be someone that won't just leave you hanging and wondering what happened to them just the same. I've had that happen to me many times, and trust me it's just not fun.

Well, it all depends. If it is role playing, I would say around 15-20 is where you want to hit. If it is any other, than all depends.

If it is any other, than all depends. =] welcome to the discussion: your proboards section. please remember to read the board rules, and that all posts must be at least four, well-thought out sentences. this ensures that the topic is added to, fresh ideas, or new spins on old ideas are brought forth. For example, elaborate on why 15-20 role play forums is the 'right' amount of RP forums to have, and why specifically that number range for specifically RP forums? Personally, I think 'too many' is the number --whatever it is per individual-- that stops them from being active on the ones they create or help create, and hinders their social lives and their work and/or school. Once you have so many forums that you're neglecting your RL friends, or school, or work, you have too many. It isn't healthy to spend ALL your time online. ^^

I think that two forums is too much and that you should stick to one forum. If you stick to that one forum, it will grow faster than you think, and you won't really have much time for other sites. It takes a lot of work advertising, affiliating, replying to your members, making contests, updating, etc. If you have more than one forum things start to get a little shaky, and at three forums, things just go down hill. At least, this is my opinion. I find it a lot easier and more fun for the members and staff to just have one forum.

I don't know how anyone in their right mind can do a good job on 15-20 forums as any kind of staff member. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it seems impossible. Sometimes I wonder if some of my members are on too many forums as is. I know two of my members are only mainly on my board, but the others I can't be certain of. Those others are usually the ones that I have the problems with getting them to post at times. So I guess you can't be a part of too many boards, but everyone has to figure out what's right for them.
I think if you really like a RPG and you're running it you'll spend a good amount of time exploring the world that is that RPG. Maybe it's in the form of taking on more characters or whatever, but you're going to show your interest one way or another. If you don't show that kind of interest in a game I'd be more worried. Like why aren't you that interested, but just interested enough to join and keep a float?

Well, it all depends. If it is role playing, I would say around 15-20 is where you want to hit. If it is any other, than all depends. Are you talking about as an admin? Wow. You must have tons of free time. ;D As a member, I would say that number is easily doable, especially if you regulate yourself to one character per forum...that way you don't get overwhelmed and neglect other characters and threads. I guess as a mod, you might get away with it. If the forum is small enough and if there are other staff that are active more, you could probably ghost about to the different forums and be active and relatively good at it. As an admin, I would find it tough unless you are just an admin and you don't post. If you are the creative force behind the scenes, it might be easier to get away with though.

There is no magic number. It depends completely on the creator and how much time and muse they have. I have been through times in my life when I would run five or six very active proboards RPGs and other times where I have barely been able to manage one. It just depends.

It depends on the person..
I have two of my own forms, and I am Co-admin on my best friends forum. (She is Co-admin on mine). Though I do find it hard at times to keep up.. I manage just fine. I would never dream of creating another one though because I am a member on several different forums and two of those have demanding post counts. anyway back on topic
I find that people who have three or more don't have enough time time to spend on one of their forms and let those go inactive. It just depends on the person and if they can handle it or not.

I think it depends on the person... personally I can only handle being an admin of one site... But, I can handle being on like ten rp sites if not more then I'm not admin just a member... as of now I'm on about fourteen sites I'm a Member... Then one site my own ( It's never really got started though ) and then I Moderate on another... so all and all sixteen and I can handle them all pretty well... seeing as some take forever for people to reply back to me... surprisngly enough with that many fourms...
