Nowadays, her attacks are just little surprise attacks using the email addresses of friends I know and the same people she also stalks and hates and curses and all that blooey. Nowadays, the main troll-turned-stalker just has her minions do her dirty work for her.

I think I know who you're referring to! Honestly the "A" seriously needs to grow up and get over herself. My bff had an lj and still has friends there and the "A" just don't stop trolling, she even posted crap about my friend and then hides her posts and never gives links or any other info about the things she's drivelling on about ( this is so she can hide facts and obscure the truth ) and she even went so far as to accuse my friend of being other people and saying she's a "clever girl" whilst lying through her teeth. Hey Banasbud, yes I am familar with "A"...unfortunately. I got your message and all I can say is she's a psycho and she's a liar. I will ty to address your queries. I don't know whether she sets out to manipulate people from the get-go or just does it for the thrill of getting people pissed off at her when they catch her in her sh!t...all of which, by the way, are trademarks of a troll. Trolls do that. They live for getting some poor soul they target to respond to their insane BS. Either way = troll, troll, troll. She is most definitely a troll.

I've had enough BS from that person and frankly, her and her fellow trolls can go bugger off. "I did it because I knew it would really piss her off" = Troll. You can find that quote several times through her trolling endeavors. I'm sorry she's also managed to drag you and your friend into her drama. But like I said, if her fingers are typing, she's lying. The guy that she claims I said I never cared about, is another example of how she will twist anything anyone says to fit her agenda. I never said I didn't care about this guy - what I said, in fact, was that I was NOT IN LOVE with him. TWO - distinctly different things. I do care about the guy in question, but I don't live my life to be about him. So my care for him would be on the same level as I'd care about any other decent human being.

However, if I had said I really care about him or been someone else I know who went so far as to suggest a marriage proposal, that twisted troll would have said I was "obsessed" with the man. So it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. A is just another example of the sad people out there who get all delighted with themselves when they can hurt, malign or destroy someone else. But their unhappiness remains.

BTW, are you Brit? There was someone by that name that contacted me around the beginning of the year and the other troll "A" really had a field day with that person. I didn't know what was going on and I got blamed for contacting the same troll who you speak of in your PM, but although I never stayed in contact with Brit, I did thoroughly enjoy her lj posts about A. That journal generated over 270 comments. A is not as well-liked as she thinks she is. Now I just laugh every time A and her troll tag-a-longs post their bile. It means they've finished pissing off all the other people in their rounds and have come back to harass me because I guess, they haven't quite gotten me to respond to them (again - would be a mistake to respond to any obvious trolling).

One of them even sets people up to get heated responses by bashing their fanfics, and the trick is, IF any of those people do respond, they'll immediately get flamed, attacked and belittled because that's how the whole thing is set up. I was warned to NOT fall for that trick last year. It wasn't a fanfic, it was something else entirely but I was told by one of these trolls that I could "address issues" there that I was trying to address without the public drama that would have unfolded. And I almost did, but someone stepped in and told me to not respond to the bait. When I didn't...you guessed it, the troll blew up and posted a flaming attack anyway, because that was her goal from the start. How else can you explain the behavior of someone losing their mind over the fact that they weren't going to get a chance to wage a flame war that would have been completely under their control? Like I said...TROLL! Learn how to spot 'em, avoid 'em. Laugh at 'em.

No not Brit. I don't think I even know Brit. But I have so many contacts-who knows. Yes I had witness how "A" had blasted and flailed which is something she does on a regular basis about anyone telling others what she's screaming about and posted a paranoia about her secrets getting out. So my friend just deleted her lj and left. "A" then tried to corner others and when someone pointed out that my friend was indeed a legit person even pointing out the link number 634899 where the date is visible in the replies and proving she had been with lj for a long time (even to the point of screen shots OF) her profile which she saved, it didn't stop "A" from continuing her stupidity and further obscurng the truth.
But she's done it before. What's weird is that she really don't like someone named Tracy and has said in closed entries that she's an angry person while playing kissy wth this other person, whom she's also berated to some of us. So what gives? Really trolls play any side of the fence that will keep them in and keep them from being figured out. I don't know who Tracy is (unless it's that kooky girl from Australia) but "A" really super don't like her and scoffs when the other one touts her horn.

The Tracy she's talking about isn't from Australia but I already knew she didn't like her anyway. Nothing new to me there. This other stuff you tell me, that's new to me. Seems kind of simple-minded perhaps, but it's simply the truth. A troll is looking for trouble from the get-go and will usually post anything they can to start said trouble. Again, while I can't think of a solid definition of a troll, I know one when I see one. There's never one, specific way that the problem is started either. But you can bet however it's done (whether through simple spamming or being outrageously offensive), people will get very, very angry and it has to be stopped very quickly. Otherwise it runs rampart.

A solid definition? I think you've already really stated one...

A troll is someone looking to cause mayhem or strife. That is all that a troll really is after, the means they go about it and the measures and precautions they take are only part of the issue. And it's not like it matters where the trolling happens either... As demonstrated, some trolls go to extremes to take their misery out on others.



Though, I don't think silence is always the best way to deal with them. There are some trolls that you might be able to reason with first, and so it might be worth a shot to attempt. But in the case of the extreme trolls, talking to them never helps... but you may not need to talk to them to solve the issue. For example if you can catch them in their lies, then the their credibility is destroyed and they have a harder time making people believe what they say. This can be just as devastating to them as their attacks are on others. (Though it's not a guarantee they won't turn to personal attacks on you.) But even if they do, with their credibility shot, people may not bother listening to what the troll has to say anyway.

Though, I wonder... if the admins and whatnot aren't stopping the attacks... (despite evidence to prove there is a legitimate issue) what would they do if you decided to beat the troll at their own game? Possibly start a tirade against the troll and see how they like it. Maybe a bit of their own medicine would cure them of that ailment? Though I'd be very careful about this as it could very easily backfire... especially if the troll is a master manipulator and can actually get the admins behind them.

I'm not advocating people go out and do what trolls do, but I'm curious, do you think this would be an effective measure to defeat a persistent troll? Would fighting fire with fire work in this case?

Well, yes and no. Usually no. The trolls I've come up against are very much indeed master manipulators. Some of them will actually pretend to be on your side and screw you behind your back...just waiting for the opportunity. Of course silence isn't always a reaction you have to give, and certainly I haven't been silent here but in their midst I am not anywhere they can attack. Well, yes, they could attack here but they'd be stupid to try.

Unfortunately once you've got a persistent troll, very likely it's a stalker and you don't get rid of them. Also, unfortunately from my experience, stalkers usually have friends who help them stalk! Because again, they're master manipulators. I've tried to clear myself from *any* path the stalker who stalks me from following and as you might guess it's next to impossible.

I was manipulated into "taking all measures to protect me from the outside world" making all my profiles private, my sites private and everything even making it to where no one could contact me from the "outside". It was a CONCRETE way to make sure that I was controlled, isolated and unable to have anyone's second opinion about anything. Talk about being manipulated to a degree that I was literally almost totally dependant on the manipulator. Now my profiles are still private but I allow anyone to contact me that isn't on my friend's lists. I've gotten a mountain of info that way. Info that the disgusting whacko-de-facto did NOT want me to have. You see?

Keep on your toes. Boy, you'll need to be one step ahead of the game at all times. If not ten steps ahead!

I wanted to add; someone I trusted had actually LEAD the stalker to my sites and stuff because she knew where everything was, because she was there! I always wondered how the stalker always knew my every post or any peep I made. It's because I had the enemy on the inside. Glad to be rid of it now. I still can't believe I followed orders so easily in the name of "please stay safe and protect yourself" oh pleeease! When someone tells me that now, you better believe I see a wolf in sheep's clothing! And I still ain't got T's address and phone number! Someone out there is friggin desperate!

You've made very good points.
It is unfortunate when people do that.
It's hard to keep track of different ISP's and IP addresses.
What I consider trolling is someone who does just that.
They try to join your board post things to irritate the members and not only you and after they are banned persist in their behavior.

Posting things that irritate the board members and cause friction can be considered trolling and controlling especially maddening if that troll happens to be a co-admin, but that's another issue being covered in another thread. Yeah, I'm still kicking myself for being talked into letting a disturbed, unstable person be a co-admin. I gotta stop being nice because someone can jazz up some stupid avatar or background! Sheeesh! I wonder how far that actually goes? Obviously far enough.

The ISP thing is another sure thing to go by, I mean I get IPs on my board from all kinds of IDzaps, stumbleupons, and even one from an Owen Sound, Ontario public library! Wow! That's definitely some messed up stuff there! I actually appreciate those that want to spy who aren't too cowardly to do it via their own IP. But I only know of ONE person like that and I won't ban that because at least it's an honest lurker.

Anyway...

While I'm here, I was hoping I could ask a question to the mods...would it be okay if I posted some links to a board where I could make better example of these things? There are lots of posts so I would choose which ones were the most relevant.

Example:

This person was taken off a friends list and CALLED me over it (I know, OMG! ) and asked me to tell everyone across the board how flipping unfair it all was and how she was so abused and how could this happen and even called the person de-friending her some names . Not to mention the names she called her to me over the phone.

Is this a troll or someone who's just mad and pissed off? And what about this is this how normal people act? I mean, the kissing up, the utter disrespect the next second, the PMs, all of it, what do you think? There's just sooo much that I want to share and have awaited the opportunity. A powerful weapon against a troll is that everyone has knowledge of their deeds.

I'm so sick of her ranting and raving. she has also had people destroy other peoples yahoo groups. having a minion as a mod in someone else's group and then have that minion erase all the posts that directed to her and also links ect. we had lost alot of stuff in that group. i think you know who I'm talking about.
