How to make my forum thematic.

I wouldn't think so. My username is named after me(accident), but my forum isn't. I think it is best to look everywhere to try to make a theme. I would not suggest just, you know, giving up. If you give up, then there is no point in being an admin, unless there is no way you can make your forum match it's theme. I have seen people who will make a skin for a forum that doesn't even have the same theme match up.

I have seen

• Kingdom Hearts with pokemon skin
  
• Metroid with kingdom hearts skin
  
• coke with water theme
  
• Christian forum with satanist skin
  

It gets a little pathetic sometimes(took forever to find them[on accident]).

Do you know how many members they had, about two, I am serious, so it is best to keep your forum with it's theme and don't let it go off too much.

I hate forums that are all the same. Enchant used a very good theme. Harry Potter forums are all the rage (lol, I have one). If you do make a forum do make sure it is unique and if you are unsure of it being unique then use another language(I used latin for a talk section but made sure they understood is was talking). Instead of houses I used Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Death Eaters. Instead of house points I used galleons. If you make a unique board it makes it seem like you thought it out and you actually have. SO yeah make your forum thematic

Well, the problem with using another language in your boards is that you are not allowed to do that. It completely violates the Proboards Terms of Service and could result in the deletion of your forum. It does seem like a good idea to change things around on your forum for thematic effects and attraction of users. You could even make up some stuff, to help it stay unique. I would not use any other language that English(unless you are using magin ) for fear of forum deletion. But there are many things that determine the theme layout of a forum.

• Keep it unique
  
• Keep the skin to the type of forum it is
  
• Try not to use premade skins
  
• Try not to do too much copying from other boards(board titles, thread titles, games, etc.. not pics)
  

You know, just do what you can do to keep it on the theme, yet, unique at the same time.

Take a look through the design and coding sub-boards, you'll find some free resources.

Ok, I am new here. I am wanting to make my board specific as well. I saw a lot of esoteric ideas as to what people think makes a unique board. That's all well and good. But how do you do it? What is the physical methodology? What are the mechanics of physically of building your board once you have created a theme? Where do I find a step by step "how to"? By the way I read the rules and I hope I am ok in posting this here.

Hi Charlie

I am assuming you are wanting some steps as to how and where to start....
1. Have a theme idea already in mind....
2. Once you have a theme, start on the color scheme....
3. Add some coding that you like...you should be able to find a large list of codes and how to install them in the coding board here on PB.
4. Once you have the foundation and the coding, then you can work on the Grapics. I would suggest the banner first, as it is always a visual point. If you can't make one yourself, there are plenty of help in the graphics board. Once the banner is done, you can make other graphics images to mesh with the banner.
5. After you have all this done, you might want to work on your content...
6. Tweak areas, that you feel that you would like to improve on...and once you have done all this, then place your forum in GOAYB for review and read other thoughts and suggestions...

Keep in ming that everyone does it differently...it seems a bit more intimidating then it actually is, and that there are support boards here to help you along the way...I am not sure this helped, but it is a breif guideline that might be useful. Actually it helped a great deal. What I really want to accomplish is to make the site look professionally done. This is a Scooter Enthusiast group and I want it to look different than the other groups I have seen.

I have the board up and running with the codes in place but it is just a standard board visually. Since I am a novice at this and hope to get better I have played with the skins and haven't really changed much except colors and some item placement via the codes.

I have read some of the stuff on the graphics boards but really don't know how to deal with CSS and the like.

So, I guess that I will have to learn about all of that before I can change the appearance of my board? Any further advice would be helpful.

I am not sure what you mean..when you say change your theme are you referring to content or graphics? (PM me if you need to clarify, keep support issues on the thread.) For your buttons, all you need is to replace the image in your admin pane....If you are wanting to have a new style of buttons, you should check out the graphics board.

Just keep in mind that this board is not a support board, so any help issues should be directed to thier repective boards. This board is primarily for discussions and experiences....
