Some things are given like helping keep the site active, activly modding - IE moving topics in the wrong places, telling someone if they've double posted in the space of 5 seconds and deal with any rare mis-behaviour etc etc etc.
I go into length before hand what the job entails, and what i expect, part of which is being absolutely fair. IE nothing in the staff forum goes beyond that forum or they're out of a staff job/complete privacy, and they cannot have favorites with any member based on how long they've been there/how much they like them because each poster is exactly equal regardless of age/post count/time at forum.
I've seen forums that require staff to post in a "log" in a staff forum that they're there, what they've done - and it's completely ridiculous. I don't ask anything like that as I know I can already trust them otherwise I wouldn't have asked them to be staff. In the end your running a community, not a dictatorship. To both members and staff - you/your staff can be authoritative without being OTT with running your forum.
If you're staff, you've a responsibility to be just as much one of the members, if you come off too admin like and overbearing you'll put yourself above your posters and they think you look down on them and alienate them, and that is not how to run an online community.

My biggest expectation for my staff is to follow the rules set forth for the forum, and to not expect special treatment because they are staff. Other than that, I expect moderations of their boards - my staff are required to log in (not post or anything, just log in and check the staff board(s)) at least 4 times a week, if only for a few moments to read the posts in the staff areas if there are any, and to moderate their boards.
I also expect stuff discussed in the staff area to remain amongst staff members only, and not to be discussed with non-staff members. I expect politeness, and to treat everyone equally, and to respect the decisions of the administrators. I also expect the staff to check with myself or the head admin before making a drastic decision about the forum, their board, or a member.
And lastly, I expect my staff to just be themselves, and try to have fun. xD It is, after all, an RP forum.

I am not an admin, but a staff member on a site. And I think one of the most important traits of a new staff member is to not let the title get to your head. Don't be a mod just for the popularity (if they get it on a board) and the title.

For me once I make someone a staff member I expect them to do the best job as they can to help out with the forum. My main expectation is that they will respect it and in return help make it better any way they know how to. A lot of my other expectations come upon me getting use to having them on the staff and getting a feel of what part they play with the board. If I make someone a fellow admin I expect that if for any reason I can't be on or I have to take a break from the board that they can keep it going while I'm away.
I tend to expect a lot of people when they come onto my staffs. In my mind they should have an excitement towards the forum and be willing to help out without any complaining. I think that's a given though. I also want them to be just as good as a staff member as I am at least. If they're not and they don't have much experience however I at least expect them to want to learn how to become a better staff member.

Well I don’t really have many expectations of my staff members, all they have to do is the best they can. They all have specific jobs to do as well like I have sorters – accept people applications, checkers – check peoples spelling and grammer etc….. Most of them do what the do to the best they can, I think it helps every thing rune more smoothly if everyone has specific things they have to do. So no gets confused on what they can and can’t do.

For my staff, I would expect them to follow the rules and know these rules by heart. I would expect them to not be selfish snobs, and to consider another's feelings. I would want them to be able to carry on with their responsibilities when I am absent. If they cannot be respectful they'd be banned, because I'm sick of cocky and rude staff. They'd also have to be able to answer the questions that guest and members have, beacuse if they are willing to make a thread just to learn something they should be given information.

I expected 4 simple things from all my staff members.
1. Follow the rules of the forum to a 'T'
2. Be friendly, helpful, and attentive to ALL member regardless of seniority.
3. Keep the forum fresh and new.
4. Follow protocol for dealing with rule infractions and REMEMBER YOUR BOUNDARIES
As long as my staff did these 4 things I had no problems with them.
