Choosing Staff For Your ProBoard

I pick my staff by choosing members that I have gotten to know and are well respected members of the forum. They need to show me that they have leadership, control, and that they can handle the power. Admin position's should be rare and hard to get...to many members that are Admins could hurt the forum.

I like to choose someone that has been a good member, is an admin of their own site or is a mod. Someone that I know members love and that I love too.

Well in my Travels on the net and I have joined 50 boards all together and I have watched this happen so many time on other board, and perhaps the Proboard circut as well.

When it comes to choosing a staff member for any type of board, They look a John doe, and mike maybe and they chose Mike Maybe why because Mike is the Amdin best freind..

and people for get about john doe,, and rather then Have john doe on the staff, They would rather let the board, be deleted..

Why do some chose to be that way when picking some one for the title of staff..?

It's a very simple answer really. They're n00bs. I don't want to be mean about that, but it's the sad truth. Many people do choose their best friends in real life to be staff. I don't think I've ever done that on my forum. I choose who would be best, and I can always tell that I chose the right person. If you ever feel that you chose someone wrong. Then demod them. This is one of those cases where you need not worry about their feelings, they obviously aren't worrying about yours.

Your staff should always be people you trust. In fact, you should probably watch them staff on another forum before you let them staff on yours. Maybe admin their own and then, if they did a pretty good job with community, let them staff on yours.

I agree that this can be the case. The nice thing about choosing real life friends: You know what they are like already. You don't have to get to know them. Plus, forum work can be done outside the actual forum and that makes it easier.

Overall, I agree though that most people tend to do it...and not so much that they are noobs, but that they do not understand the nature of the business they are in. Most people that are interested in forums and such will work hard for it. Some just want to say they have one: Then when it fails, they delete the fact that they failed. I wish more people gave away forums to others. I had this happen to me twice. I was given the forum so that it would not be deleted.

Thank you guys, for the much welcome advice, But I have another question, Why are so many of the comic book based role play, are gone,? like one address I go to look at it and It bring me back up to the Proboard home page,

ALL those post and topics gone and it is a such a waste, tisk tisk *shakes his head* and I have the adress bookmarked are the members to blame or the stuff of the indivial board. who is to blame and why are So many comic books based boards dieing..?

andI have an idea, and it is this when advertise your board, I don't know why you can make Folders or sub boards under the advertiving board of the main pb site like for example make like a folder called "comicbook roleplays," Then move all the Marvel or dc adversitisements to that folder..

Of couse this board, get like 4 billions hits a days and like 500 members ( it is just an example) so it would be a bit diffcult to make folders and put all the correct rp in them, But it is just an idea. but it will never happen.. Feedback is weclome..

Personally, I only have 2 admin accounts. #1 is my main. #2 is also mine, for my other browser/PC used mainly for testing, that way if something does not look right for that browser, then I can fix it using that browser without having to log out then log in.

I doubt I'll ever have to worry about having another admin, but if I do, it'll be a friend that's been a part of my site and board, not someone who joins the board that I really don't know.

As for mods, well, I have 1 and am talking to someone I really trust about being my 2nd one.
I really would trust her as admin, but it's really not needed at the time.

On my board, I really do not plan on having a big staff list. The only one that might get big is the Realm Staff, but they are not really staff on the board, the only extra they get is Make Announcement. That way, if the game and web site for The Realm Online goes down, they can keep players posted on my board.

I've just advertised on someone's boards as a guest, & TWO of their Moderators were quite rude in their replies.
The Admin then came to my forum to apologize for their behaviour.
I pointed out on my very polite post that if that's how they treat their guests, how an earth do they treat their members.
All in all, be courteous, because you could scare away potential members.
Choose your staff not only on their abilities but how they treat people too.
I've had this happen before on a forum (& it's not because I didn't read their rules & was repremanded)
It shouldn't be up to the admin to go around apologizing for their staff.

When I find staff, I always look to my proboards partner in crime who I've been talking to since I first found proboards and she always helps me out as my co-admin. She's very trustworthy and I know that she understands proboards almost as well as I do. For other members of staff or designers, I turn to other friends I've picked up over the way.

Sometimes when I feel that fresh staff would be good I find people who are extremely active and contribute well to my forum, I would never pick someone that I didn't trust completely, and I don't give the people that are not close friends of mine many powers, just enough to help me out.

I'm administrator of our World of Warcraft guild forums, but I can't get full privilegeds to forum admin, because the forum other administrator, who is not longer in our guild, can't delete his account. He also have made those forums to us.
Pretty unclear question probably, but hopefully someone can give me some answer.

The first thing you need to do is read the rules, you do not want to give the wrong impression by posting in a thread that is irrelevant to your question.... Please do not use a discussion board to ask how to do something....that is what a support board is for. Thank you

I usually observe members who I think have potential of being good staff members. If I need staff members then I will send a PM to their account and ask them if they are interested. I then set them to the staff group and put them as staff on a "trial basis". After I feel I can trust them with their duties then I don't moderate them as heavily.

The only time I will actually post on the forum requesting staff is for image designers or graphic designers...they only have limited moderation abilities. But anyway, I generally hand pick my staff, I am very picky on who I assign as staff on my forum.

I have, in the past, given away staff positions somewhat irresponsibly, i.e. handing them to anybody that posted a lot and seemed like they could help, but nowadays I only give them out through application processes, and, sometimes, to my "real life friend", or to people I know extremely well from other sites that I decided could help out.

In my forum, some of my admins aren't active, and one of them is really disrespectful to me. I have told them to come online more, and only one of them seems to be listening. Should I give them a warning or should I just dethrown them of their powers? I really need some staff though...
