I prefer to have it off -.- i mean, not only as an admin butnas a guest myself. I rmemeber that as the number of rpgs I played in increased..the more likely I was to pass up a site completely if it was set to guest must log in mode..

I believe guests should not have to log in. However, I don't think they should be able to post without being a registered member. As Robert pretty much said...guests have to be able to see the quality of the site before they'll take the time to log in.

I struggle with this choice. I have an ex admin who is stalking us and tring to get members to leave the board n stuff so I prefer to keep it so ppl have to log on and have an account, to keep her from readings our topics ect and replyinh with spam or rudeness.
If someone wants to see what we have to offer and is serious they'll take the time to make an account. Thats the type of member I want. Not someone who joins and never comes back. I think that extra step seperates serious members from not serious members, sometimes. I keep my board with the guests must log in mode ON and I think i will always do so.

Personally, I never go to forums that I cannot see. It might SOUND fine, but if I take the trouble to create an account, I want to know what I am in for. Why not just have it where guests can only view it and that way there is no way for the ex-admin to spam? Or, why not allow some boards, like the rules and such to be open to guest viewing, but the other sections closed to all non-members?

I think guests would want to see what the forum is, and they would want to file through posts and such to see if they like the forum, and would want to join. If the guests must log in thing is on, they will most likely think that it is under matience, and no one wants to join those. Usually, ofrums I join that aren't finished, end up getting deleted. My debate would have to go with not having the guests log in on. ^^

I am of the same mind....if a member is interesting in the topic, then they will take the time to join. That being said, as mentioned before, it is a matter of what works best for you and your community. I have tried both ways, and a for members only situation works best for me... I have compromised and left the non- theme boards open, but all relevent boards to the theme of my forum are a members only privledge.

Allow guests to view the board. Personally I like to see what I am on before I join. Please make sure that you are posting in accordance to the rules on this board. This board is for discussion not comments. We would love for you to particpate, but back your comments up with reasoning. I hope to read more of your thoughts.

i think you should only allow members to post but let guests view your forum so they have an idea of what its about you may end up with more members that way

Okay here my opinion, Make some boards Viewable to everyone, and some boards to only staff or members, this way the guest has a positive idea on joining when a join without view will fill the mind with doubt...

Yeah I don't want to join a board that if I don't even know what it is. I see no point in not letting them view it.(At all.)
So I'm against it.

I hope to read more of your thoughts. On a personal note, I see alot of members posting that they do not want to join places that they can't see what the boards are about, seems a bit irrelevent being as that is what the board descriptions are for....If it is a topic you like...for example....If a board says Scifi and Fantasy TV, then it would obvious to assume that it is indeed a discussion on television shows for just that. ... In my opinion , I feel, if a member is actually interesting in the topics mentioned on the boards, then they will want to take the chance in seeing what that board has to offer....I think , if a board reveals what there community has to offer, then it takes away the priveldge of being a member. It also reduces the ripp off facter on content as well.
