Inactive Accounts - Delete or not to Delete? Feb 18, 2008 21:23:30 GMT -8

Why do I feel this way? They make the site unappealing. How do you feel when you go to a site and nothing has been posted since (insert date of six weeks ago)? It doesn't look good. HoudiniDerek, it's different with RPG's; you do dictate how much and how often members post. And of course I am not saying that those who have a legitimate reason why they can't log on are lousy scum. But those whocjust don't because they are lazy or don't care in my opinion are. I'm exaggerating in saying they should be banned from computers, but they're definitely no buddies of mine.
If the site has not had any activity at all in six weeks, I would look to the admin of the site too. They have a responsibility to be active and post to let people know the site is still active...even if no one else is posting.
As for dictating on RPG's, yes some do, but some do not. I do not dictate how much or often you have to post. I mass emailed to let members know that when the site was updated, I would be deleting members that had never posted because I wanted them to have an accurate idea of who was around or not. I do that about every year or so. While that dictates to some degree, it does not dictate the way or the frequency to do it.
I agree that it is important for RPs to have active posters, but even one or two can make a forum worthwhile. If I deleted inactive members, I would constantly be doing that...and I have had several return after much needed hiatuses. Even if they don't post about it, there is always the chance they will return, which is why I give wider latitude. More flies with honey and all that jazz.
