Forum URL: hotelfcom.proboards35.comAs admin of this board back in July I banned a member for repeated fanfic plagiarism. According to the ban file, that banning is still on the system for e-mail address, IP address, and user name. Today she registered on this board using another user name but the same e-mail address, which I believe makes it also the same IP address. I immediately banned this new user name, but why was she able to register at all if she'd been banned? No, she didn't post, but that isn't unusual, we get a lot of people who register and don't post at first.

Check your ban list. You could have banned the IP/username and not the e-mail. Also, make sure it is exactly the same e-mail. You could have mistaken one or two letters. People can get new ip addresses, and also, sometimes other isp's give different IP adderesses often, so they could have joined when the IP address was a different one. Captain Maniac

I did check for any tiny dissimilarities, believe me, this girl is a huge thorn in our side. When I banned the membership today, I checked all boxes to ban all three items, and it only took the new user name, since the e-mail and IP were already on the banned list. I guess what I need to ask is, even if banned, can someone register but just not get into the board? If so, this might be something PB should alter, since what admin needs this kind of a heart attack any given day.

If the IP is banned, then they should not be able to access the board at all, therefore, they shouldn't be able to register. Like I said, they could have changed their IP in order to join, but if it says the same one, then that can't be. Also, when you enter something into the ban list, I think you have to do each individually, as example:
IP address, and choose ban ip. E-mail address, and choose ban e-mail. Username, and choose ban username.

IP bans really don't work, and with all the free email services out there, banning eamils isn't very effective either. The best thing for you to do is limit your registration. Then you can approve who joins and who does not

I took over this very troubled board in July from the original admin and had to ban a few rabblerousers right off. I have always just checked all three at once and the system shows that they are all 3 in the ban file. I don't mean to be argumentative, I am just deeply concerned that this person could in any way access the board. I think my age is on my profile, but in case it isn't, I am a 'grandmother' trying to protect six dozen really great kids from liars and thieves, and I really take this seriously.
