I think it's wrongly named, from the name you'd expect it to show newly created topics, not to show the most recently replied. It should be "New Replies" ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) Agreed. And I would've preferred it to be new topics instead of new replies, because that's the same as "10 Most Recent Posts". Is there any way to get that? =o

It's just good practice to cache the length, so it's not having to grab the length each iteration of the loop, it is instead stored in a variable. Just something to make it quicker. Well then again for the simplicity of the code at hand it's not really necessary. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) With my coding style, I try to keep variable usage as low as possible for minimum memory usage and to minimize redundancy. If every coder says that about every little code made, and a site ends up using a bunch of little codes, it adds up. Using variables to cache will result in better performance almost all of the time.

Well in theory wouldn't codes execute faster and use less resources if coders didn't use like a bazillion lines for variables that hold the same value then do what was intended by the code?

Depends on the browser, and in the case of loops, it depends on the length of the element you're loooping, as well as how many times it's actually iterating.

Personally, I would have opted to link it a bit differently. Maybe it's just me, but I see this new feature as something very similar to the recent posts link. It's definitely not something to merit a place on the menu bar. I think the feature could definitely be warranted to be placed in the info center, but it doesn't fit in the menu, in my opinion. Oh well, I can live with it, but I'll be hiding it anyway. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I think it's wrongly named, it's not 'new' as in new threads you haven't read, it's more like 'most recent topics', a bit like 'View the 10 most recent posts of this forum', I personally think this shoud be in the info centre instead of 'recent posts'
<script type="text/javascript"> <!-- // relocate "new topics" button into infocenter // remove from all pages except main // by Wormo
holdBtn=document.createElement('div'); for (lnks=document.getElementsByTagName('a'), l=0; l<lnks.length; l++) { if (lnks[l].href.match(/newestthreads/)) { lnks[l].nextSibling.nodeValue=''; holdBtn.appendChild(lnks[l]); } if (lnks[l].href.match(/action=recent$/) && holdBtn.firstChild) { lnks[l].parentNode.appendChild(document.createElement('br')); lnks[l].parentNode.appendChild(holdBtn.firstChild); break; } }
// --> </script>

It'd almost be useful if it showed which boards the threads were from without having to hover. Almost.
