I've looked over the boards for hours and I am not even sure if I'm calling them by the correct name. But I was thinking it has to be a code or something that I would place in the subject box on the first post of a thread. I've been to some sites (not proboard) and all you have to do is place the link to your photobucket or tinypic image with the code then it shows up in place of text. Please help. Thank you in advance.

I'm not really wanting for my thread banners to be made... I've already have several waiting to be used... I just can't find the section on this site or anywhere for that matter that tells me HOW to put them in place. I use the plain http code from tinypic... or even the direct link from my photobucket.... the image won't show in the threads title. I try using the img code with it... same thing. I've tried changing from jpg to bitmap to see if that might made a difference... nope. I guess this means there must be some sort of code I need to know before I can place them there... Not as board banners... not as banners across the top of the site.. I've seen other proboard sites have a "thread" banner but I don't know how they did it. They are small. If someone knows this, I am guessing it's something very simple. I'm so new at all of this, I just need some help if any kind soul could help me I would very much appreciate it. maybe if I tempt you with something sweet??? Or even a slice of pizza??? *bats my eyeslashes* Pleeeeease ;D

The only way I can think to do this would be to either 1. put a keyword in the thread title like "[pizza]" and have a code replace it with a picture. this would require an array of all the keywords you want to use 2. have an array of all the thread titles you want to replace with an image. but keep in mind that this is less dynamic because you would have to add the thread id to the list every time you wanted to utilize the code on it.
either way, some sort of array will need to be created with all the possible options.
still interested?

OH boy... This is my first site, and it is only two weeks old (still more active than I imagined.. over 1000 posts already.) I only heard of a header and footer after I started doing this sort of thing... Yep a newbie I am.. but I am willing to do this for my friends.. well and my own experience in learning. I can follow a "step 1," "step 2," "step 3" type of instructions.. but YES... Please I will gladly give this a try. And I do know what you are saying. For years, I went to the WB Harry Potter site and noticed some of their old smiliey icons were posted that way... with the word typed inside of the brackets in place of a long code which linked back to a photobucket address. Thanks... for taking the time to help me figure this out. I look forward to your post. edited to say... Wait...you were going to show how right? I'm just one of these people who would like to learn how to fish instead of needing to keep coming back for more fish when I'm hungry. I'm just thinking about the future. Thanks either way... I'll be grateful.

I was going to do one better and write the code. Im leaning towards option 1 because it makes it more dynamic. allowing anyone to use it since it doesnt rely on headers access to add to the code.

OH this sounds really good. Then if I'm thinking correctly, then in the future I could reuse this same code for anyone else who needs a banner for their thread? Still, thank you so much for doing this .

Still working on it. I tried a couple different methods to see what would work better, including one of them that globally replaces any keyword it finds on the page with its replacement, but I couldnt find a way to exclude things like inputs and textareas. I think Im going to go back to just scanning links and specific cells for the changes and leave everything else untouched.

I'm still looking around just in case someone else had asked this question and had it answered but still, no luck. I have more questions about other things... not just about how to install "thread" banners, but other codes. But in the mean time I'm learning loads from just looking around. This site is really great... and the people here are very nice.

Should I keep checking back? I mean, if this is a hard task to create a code that allows me to install thread banners.. I do understand... and this is ok. But if things are going alright and you are still working on it... I'll keep bumping this thread some more. Thanks anyway for your time... as well as what you already did while working on this. Honestly, it IS appreciated no matter what the outcome.

give this a shot <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- // UBBC in thread titles v1.0 // by Wormopolis - www.wormocodes.com// do not repost (except on WC and PBS) - keep header intact // v1.0 image support only var forceHeight=20; var forceWidth=20; var imgTagArray=[ ['[pizza]', 'http://home.comcast.net/~kelkel2376/Games/GamestoMake/images/pizza.JPG'], ['[rock]', 'http://www.suelebeau.com/images/rock.gif'], ['[dog]','http://www.paulnoll.com/China/Zodiac/zodiac-dog-pic.gif'] ]; //add in more tags in this array. first element is tag, second is image URL. no comma after last entry if (pb_action!='headersfooters2') { // scan page links to a thread title with defined tags for (tag=0; tag<imgTagArray.length; tag++) { if (document.body.innerHTML.match(imgTagArray[tag][0])) { for (lnks=document.getElementsByTagName('a'), blah=0; blah<lnks.length; blah++) { if (lnks[blah].href.match(/thread=/) && lnks[blah].innerHTML.match(imgTagArray[tag][0])) { lnks[blah].innerHTML=lnks[blah].innerHTML.replace(imgTagArray[tag][0], '<img height="'+forceHeight+'px" width="'+forceWidth+'px" src="'+imgTagArray[tag][1]+'" border=0>'); } } for (tds=document.getElementsByTagName('td'), cl=0; cl<tds.length; cl++) { if ((tds[cl].width.match(/(55|80)%/) || tds[cl].className.match(/welcomebg/)) && tds[cl].innerHTML.match(imgTagArray[tag][0])) { tds[cl].innerHTML=tds[cl].innerHTML.replace(imgTagArray[tag][0], '<img height="'+forceHeight+'px" width="'+forceWidth+'px" src="'+imgTagArray[tag][1]+'">'); } } } } } // --> </script>

So...just to show you how green I am at this... I'm taking it that I place this code in my Global Header.
Then I take and type [pizza] within the "Subject line" where the thread title would be?
If so... which I will find out this here in a few minutes.. Still, if my thinking is correct.. How do I add additional thread banners to this list as time goes by. Right now I have a small handful to put up.. and more to come soon.
Still... Thanks.
====
No.... I even tried to put it in my global header AND footer. Sorry still.. nothing.

It would be a global footer code.
URL to site you're using this on? preferably to the thread itself.
