Welcome to the fourth official game of ProBoards Mafia! IMPORTANT: New and returning players alike must read this round's rules. Though this one's quite similar to the other three, there have been several important rule changes and role additions to keep the game interesting. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Any important clarifications will be posted in the thread. Narrator: Phaelyn | Quick PM linkLive players:DEAD:CREDIT TO BAGHEERA AND RYAN FOR OPENING POST FORMAT

Game Play, Rules and RolesNew rules and roles appear in red.
I have sent special role notifications that inform players of their role in the game. All roles have already been chosen, and were completely randomly selected with a random number generator. (Players' previous roles did not affect their selection this game; it's a completely fresh start, so if you played last game, don't bring your biases, alliances, etc, into this game. ) The first night phase will then begin immediately. Once that has finished, it will switch to day; once a lynching (or none) has been performed, it immediately transitions back to night, and so on. NIGHT PHASE:-- Narrator will post to recap the day's lynching, if any, and announce that it is night-time, then PM special roles with instructions. -- Villagers cannot post discussion or speculation in this thread. "Sleepy-time" posts are allowed, and everyone may talk amongst themselves through PM at this time. (Think of it as a late-night phone call.)-- Five Mafia members will chat via PM, IM, or any other method they choose, selecting a villager to kill. Once they unanimously choose a target, they ( the Godfather) will notify me. -- One Double-Agent will contact me with the name of a villager they wish to investigate.-- One detective will PM me with the name of the player they wish to investigate, and I will respond to tell them if that individual is a Mafia member or villager (detective does not "discover" any special roles of doctor, nurse, etc if applicable, only alignment). Alternatively, the detective can PM me the name of a confirmed villager and spend the night "training" them instead of investigating. This newly-trained detective becomes somewhat of a nurse; in the event the detective dies, this villager takes over the investigating or mentoring. IMPORTANT: a newly-trained detective has a 20% chance of messing up an investigation. A messed-up investigation may come up with a false positive, or no conclusive results at all!-- One doctor will PM me with the name of the player they wish to protect from a Mafia killing that night only (one player per night, does not carry over to another night, and does not affect lynchings). --If the Mafia and the doctor or nurse choose the same person, that person lives that night. If they don't, I'll post about the death, and the game will move to the next day phase. -- Support Roles will PM me with their optional player responses. If I do not receive PMs from them by the time I receive PMs from the mafia, doctor and detective the sun will come up and the next day will start. These new roles will not slow down the game at all. -- One Gunsmith has the chance to forge a gun. If they do so, they must PM me with the name of the villager they wish to give it to. The Gunsmith may only do this three times per game; they cannot make a gun two nights in a row.DAY PHASE:-- Narrator will post to recap the night's events, if any, and announce that it is day-time. -- All players still alive will decide which one player to execute on suspicion of being in the Mafia. --Communication by players still alive is allowed during this phase, privately or in public on the thread. --When you decide on your final vote, post the name of that player in the thread (along with any justification, etc, you wish). Please post it in bold so I see it. If you want to retract or change your vote, please also post it in bold. (If it's not in bold and the thread explodes overnight, I can't guarantee I'll catch it. ) --Vote retraction is allowed as long as the player you're voting for doesn't have over 50% of the votes. --Once a 50%+ majority has been attained, that player is immediately sentenced to death and vote retraction is no longer allowed. It is effectively night time until I post about the execution. --A player who has just been lynched is allowed one simple, sad "bah" post immediately, with no extra game play content, hints, pleas, threats, oaths, etc. If any hints are left in a death post, I will kindly request you remove them/remind everyone to disregard your points. After that, you're not allowed to post here or PM players still in the game about it. You are out of the game entirely. --Once the execution occurs, it immediately transitions to night again. -- During this phase, villagers are also allowed to 'commit suicide' -- or, basically, lynch themselves without popular vote. Suicides will not kick the game into the night phase, though a few villagers may be left distraught by the incident.-- A Gunner, if one exists, must PM me with the name of the villager who they wish to attack. If the attack succeeds, then only the name of the victim shall be released. If the gunner misses, neither name will be released. The gunner must use their gun on the first day they receive it, or not at all. Murdering someone will not kick the game into night-time.In both phases, I will generally stay out of it except when I feel a crucial rules clarification needs to be made, to answer questions posted publicly that won't ruin game play, to make judgment calls about rules if absolutely necessary (unlikely, though), and to make narrative death posts. I'm probably lurking and always available by PM, though. I may post occasional vote updates to give players an idea of where the village stands. If you have any public questions or something needs clarification, please say my name in bold so I don't miss it. ADDITIONAL RULES:1. General: There are absolutely no screenshots or videos allowed this round. Anyone found using such means as proof may be -gasp- disqualified. However, quoted copies of PMs and the like are allowed.2. Executions (lynchings): During the day, once over 50% of the current players vote for a player to be lynched, that person is immediately sentenced to death. Even if I'm not online, the person is still considered executed; no "vote retraction" is allowed to save someone after the balance has tipped. If you prefer, think of it this way: once the mob reaches that fury of over 50% crying for a lynching, there's no stopping the blind, blood-fueled rage from filling you. (Note: Vote retraction is allowed if a majority has not yet been reached.) 3. No lynching: If no majority vote is reached within 48 hours after a new daytime phase has been announced, there will be no lynching at all, and the game will move into the next night immediately. 4. You may vote No Lynch instead of voting for a player. 5. The first person to by lynched by the mafia during Night 1 now gets another chance at playing in the game! Rather than dying and revealing their role, this player goes into a coma. Every switch from night to day (or vice versa), there is a 1 in 10 chance that this player will come out of the coma and be allowed to play! However, if both the doctor and nurse die before the patient wakes up, he or she will die as well. Please note that the coma patient may not post during discussion (though if you really want to, I guess you could post what you're dreaming in your coma at night, as long as it doesn't have any hints or clues). Thanks to Ryan for suggesting this!6. Reminder: if you plan on setting your profile to 'invisible' this round, it is highly suggested that you do so before the game starts. I've found that going invisible at all -- especially in the middle of a round -- is thought of as suspicious; therefore, i recommend leaving it off. However, I've always thought login times were rather weak as evidence anyway, so it really doesn't matter either way. PLAYER ROLES: Villains
| Trying to destroy the village by murdering it's citizens. Must act for game to progress.
| Works@night
| Required4sunrise
| Mafia x5 | Work together to kill all villagers. They send their votes to the Godfather (or narrator if Godfather dies).
| Yes
| No(Yes)
| Godfather(mafia)
| One of the five picked by the rest of the mafia. Will send narrator mafia vote at night. Appears innocent when investigated. Once dead there is not another one.
| Yes
| Yes
| Double Agent
| Randomly assigned role given by the narrator. This mafia member is a detective, of sorts. It can tell whether a villager has an important role (mayor, scapegoat, hermit), or is just a plain ol' villager; however, the exact position of this important villager is not given.
| Yes
| Yes
| Heroes
| Protectors trying to save the village. Must act for game to progress.
|
|
| Detective
| Can ask narrator if a player is mafia once per night. Recieves a Yes or no answer.
| Yes
| Yes
| Doctor
| Can protect one player each night from dying. Can't protect the same person twice in a row. Sends protection request to narrator each night.
| Yes
| Yes
| Nurse
| Gets promoted to doctor if the doctor dies.
| | | Support
| Could help the village or hurt it based on their decisions. Game progresses even if they are inactive.
|
|
| Dentist
| Can pick a player at night and pull out their teeth. Their victim can only post the name of their vote and nothing else the next day. Cannot perform oral surgery on the same player 2 nights in a row. | Yes
| No
| Lawyer
| Can pick any player at night. If that player is up for lynching the next day they walk instead. Can't protect the same player 2 nights in a row.
| Yes
| No
| Vigilante
| At night can choose any player to be killed. Has only 3 kills for the whole game. Can't kill 2 nights in a row.
| Yes
| No
| Gunsmith
| This villager, a skilled gunsmith, can make three guns per game during the night. They cannot make a gun two nights in a row. After they make the gun, they may choose a villager to give the gun. This villager, now the gunner, has the chance to shoot one villager of their choosing during the daytime, as long as a majority vote has not been reached. Due to the gunner's inexperience, however, there is an equal chance of them missing their target, injuring their target for a day, or killing the target. The Gunsmith should fully trust who they give the gun to, as a mafia member may also become a gunner. (thanks to aether for the idea!)
| Yes
| No
| Outsiders
| The village fringe, will they even be missed?
|
|
| Woodcutter
| Can optionally take another player with them if they die. (day or night) PMs the narrator of their choice, does not post it.
| No
| No
| Hermit
| An outsider in the village, appears guilty when investigated.
| No
| No
| Scapegoat
| In the event of a popular vote tie at sundown the scapegoat will be lynched to please the villagers. This happens as long as the two leading lynch votes are deadlocked at sundown. This is the only time a no lynch doesn't occur.
| No
| No
| Respected
| Secondary Roles - Anyone could be on of these in addition to another role.
|
|
| Mayor
| Appoints a secretary when taking power (tells narrator, can't change). Gets 2 votes during lynchings. (public role)
| No
| No
| Secretary
| Gets promoted to mayor if the mayor dies. (not public until promotion)
|
|
| Village Elder
| Can survive an attack at night on their own 1 time.
| No
| No
| Everyone Else
|
|
|
| Villager
| Just a plain old villager. Nothing special.
| No
| No
| The Fool
| This villager's life dream is to become one of the Mafia. They love the idea of a gang getting rid of the established society, and desperately want to be a part of it -- even at the cost of their life. Therefore, it is the Fool's goal to get people to believe they are mafia and to get themselves lynched. If successfully lynched by the village, the Mafia will become bolder and have the chance to kill one more villager the night after the Fool's death. If the Mafia accidentally kills the Fool, their double-agent (if he or she is still alive) will be too distraught to investigate that night. (thanks to aether for the idea!)

Please note that since I have no place to show you all the role PMs I sent out, I cannot post them all here. If you would like me to post a certain one, bold your request and I'll see to it that it happens. If you still have questions about your role, game play, etc, you can always PM me. Have fun lying and lynching! ;D

I have sent out all role PMs, making it Night 1. All special roles (and support roles who would like to use their powers) PM me.
Also, don't pm me and yell about your role if you don't like it (a 'bah' pm is fine, but seriously, a "Wow, Phaelyn. Wow." pm is taking it too far). Every role was chosen randomly, and there was no favouritism, spite, last games etc. etc. taken into account when choosing these roles. Random.org, people. It works.
Thank you, and good luck!

Whoa! Where am I? What is this? I'm not dead?
I had the strangest dream I was living in a crazy town with crazy people and they stoned me to death for defending cats!
*pats self down*
Well, every part of me is still intact. It's a good thing this isn't a crazy town with crazy people and that my nightmare is over!
