right, that could be interesting.
Is there a list of the new options and fixes for V5?

It does seem like the design and coding community has died off. I'm seeing that more and more as I try to get back into things.
I'm in the process of getting one of my more decent templates coded, so who knows.. maybe some people will come out of hiding to join up.
Otherwise it's fingers crossed for v5 to pick things up again.

I'm a learning designer ive been at it for awhile i know what i like and i know how to please people with a design. i remember when i first discovered proboards and graphic design it was about the same time (didnt even own photoshop), i was in amazement at the skins people had, i loved the huge amount of creativity and thoughts going into it.
Every post here is correct it did go away and rpg forums came in and every other forum has a side table, a header table, and a forum table. i dont think v5 is gonna resurrect forum skinning it may help it but seriously how is v5 gonna inspire all these board's admins to look at their page and say "i look like everyone else".
You know the old saying give a man a fish and he eats for a day but teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. We basically have to start teaching new designers how to imagine and create the art. not just allow them to say "make me banner" "make me banner" oh yes that is no typo i said it twice because i see people requesting the same type of work over and over again within months its ridiculous that we keep giving them without teaching and a life without teaching wouldn't be much of a life.
myself i decided to pull away from the normal board look and have been working on it for the past few days took almost all of yesterday to figure out how to get the menu links to work correctly. it takes time, effort and the only ones you can look at for change is yourself.

You have to take into consideration that the people requesting banners cannot create them for themselves because they do not have the tools to do so. Not everyone is a designer. Photoshop is expensive, and even if you download Gimp for free it still takes time to learn. Some people just aren't born with that sort of creativity at all.
So they go with the cookie-cutter layouts. When v5 comes out, a lot of premade designers who have been holding back in anticipation will be back at work. We'll be seeing a lot more fresh, beautiful designs and hopefully those who don't have graphics programs will implement them on their sites.
Personally, I think the average amateur skinners' ability has increased twofold. I remember seeing all sorts of people with "rainbow" layouts, red text on a blue background, twenty blinking animations in their header... Even if they all look alike now, at least they don't make you want to dislodge your eyes with a rusty spork.

Saying V5 is going to Bring our designs back is crazy(not the person saying it just the idea) our V4(?) is amazing and so open to design possibilities. I think the only thing to improve is building a tool in the forum to make it easier(click and drop). Still i have no faith i believe we will see a few amazing forums and every other one will be just like the other.
I wasn't around when your skins looked something off expage.com or its copycat orcpage.com wish i could have. I wouldnt expect the forums to look that way now anyhow since all we do highlight then paste next find us a hex page to look at and request a banner to match that hex.
!!Example!! i was on a forum and guest posted WHY ISNT MY TABLE WORKING??? a side table question they started off by saying im just learning HTML and i cant figure out why the text isnt showing in the box. A member posted for a link to the page then the guest responded with his/her site url. Another member posted can we see your code a day later the guest posted
<table width="250" height="300" border="1"><tr><td valign=top" height="50"><img src="URL"></td>TEXT CONTENT IN BOX<td height="250"></td></tr></table>
The member responds with use this instead
<table width="250" height="300" border="1"><tr><td valign=top" height="50"><img src="URL"></td><td height="250">TEXT CONTENT IN BOX</td></tr></table>
that was it no more post, no thank you, no your welcome except mine asking if they would like to know why the text showed that way(no response). WHY not explain to that user why his/her text was showing outside of the table when you helped them?
things like this will keep forums from looking unique because you will have one or two people making all the templates and a bunch just skinning them changing colors and images and calling it there own

It's about PREMADE templates. So yes, there's going to be some uniformity. We're hoping to see new premade templates with the coming of v5. I'm not saying people will just magically become more creative or inspired in v5. I'm saying a lot of people (some that have even posted in this thread to attest to it) have been holding back in anticipation of v5. Why make a few new templates before a new version comes out and they will need to be redone?
And you CANNOT teach everyone who comes into Code Support HTML/CSS/JavaScript. To teach that guy what was wrong with his code, you would have to teach him the bare basics of HTML. If he wanted to learn HTML, there's online tutorials for that. He came here to have his code fixed.
Besides, that's irrelevant. It's code. We're talking about design. You can't teach people how to make beautiful layouts every time they come in for a graphic request, either. THAT is crazy.

I'm sorry but saying v4 is amazing and "so open to design possibilities" is absurd.
Proboards has had a long standing reputation as VERY uncustomizable forum software. Sure, the *possibilities* are there, if you want to spend hundreds of hours designing your OWN forum layout from scratch, then grabbing the information from proboards to use as content, but you could do that with any forum software, and the point here is that with most other forum software, it's much easier to do so.
Any designer who designs a proboards skin is instantly limited in creativity simply because some things are just too damn tedious to code. This would be fine if the default proboards content layout was semi-decent and up to date with the times, but it's just ancient by now.
And that's why proboards communities rarely succeed, people just don't want to join a forum with software that's so dated in both appearance and functionality, they want fresh features, the possibility of things such as a points code with donating without heaps of coding required, or the ability to make comments on a user's profile, and so many other small things that really add up to improve a user's experience at a forum.
Anyone who is a regular at a phpBB or IP board knows exactly what I mean, both the design and functionality of nearly *everything* on those two forum softwares are vastly superior to proboards.
Another perk with proboards is their ads, at the moment they're running two full size banner ads on every board, and the limitations with ad-free are just stupid.. people don't want to be distracted by two huge banners on every page at a forum they're a regular of.
I could really go on and on, but I'll finish here by saying: Hopefully v5 changes this, hopefully we'll see some up to date features such as the ones XenForo, phpBB, and IPB utilize and improved customization.
If not, proboards will continue to suffer and fall behind as other forum software continue to raise the bar.
My $0.02 anyway.

We're talking about PREMADES for v5, and somehow we've gone into customization, originality, and even advertisements. If you'd like to complain about the forum service, there's certainly somewhere better you can do it than this thread. (:

Not used in that context. Advertisements hardly affect making a skin at all. I don't do anything with them. I even have AdBlock, so I never even see them. Also, bickering about whether or not Proboards is customizable is a completely different debate in itself. We're not talking about other forum services and what they offer... We're talking about premades for Proboards, specifically the idea that we haven't been seeing as many fresh ones as of late from the more renowned skinners.

You still have to design around the ad, you can't move it or touch it so it's still there and in some ways does effect the layout. If there was to be no ads, I'm not saying loads or pre-mades would be made, it makes no difference, I'm just saying that it does sorta effect design.....

That doesn't move the ads, moving the ads is against the TOS. all you are doing with that code is moving the welcome table. Anyway I think we are a million miles off-topic ;D

If you have an order of objects, moving any one of them indirectly moves them all. So, indirectly, the ads are being moved.
And yes, we are.
To MY prediction, we will be seeing a lot more beautiful premades in v5. But I may have possibly already mentioned that before I became a slave to debating. I don't use premades, I make my own, but I still like looking at them and giving my opinion. (: Art is art.
Anymore I like seeing odd palettes come together nicely more than anything else. Fancy shmancy codes and cutesy graphics are amazing, but we see them all the time around here. I get really impressed when I see a skin with colors I would've never imagined together rocking a template.
EDIT: And by rocking, I mean rocking. Not clashing like effing what and making me want to put my monitor out of its misery.
