Would appreciate a subdomain that lets me practice writing some php, I'm just a beginner though.

I've found 000webhost to be quite good in the past. If you're just practicing though you might be better off just doing so locally though - then you never really need to worry about using up too much disk space or bandwidth. Wamp is a good option for that.

I'm not looking for some big webhost, just someone I can get in contact with quickly if anything goes bad.

Honestly mate, I'd install XAMPP and do it all locally.

The reason why I dont want to do it locally is because I'm still learning and want to be able to show people a live link if something goes wrong, though I'm still on the basics right now.

XAMPP turns your computer into a web server, basically. With the right port forwarded (port 80), you can just send them your IP and show them that way. Additionally, if your IP changes, use a service like dyndns to update a domain that always points to your computer.

And you're going to have trouble finding someone to let you use a sub-domain. In most cases, a sub-domain still has access to all the files on a person's server, thus you could wreak havoc.
Edit: Thus, a free host is your best bet.

This thread wasnt made to convince me to use localhost. We're simply giving you your best options. You've given no good reason why localhost is a poor idea, the only reason you gave was false and corrected by me.

A free webhost is practice space. Both of those are your best options and far more likely to happen than getting a subdomain from someone. Take what you can get, mate...don't do this "I'm holding out for something better" routine.

Also can't you secure/hide files? I know 777 is either making them hidden or writable.
