Hey hey hey, I'm sure Proboards is doing all it can about this. It isn't as easy as banning one IP or email, he's obviously jumping around with both and there's very little they can do about that. From what I'm seeing, the problem is mostly coming from the member's ends here (Their emails, cboxes, etc) and some very good advice has been posted about tryong to at least contain both of them so I suggest A) You follow the advice and B) Be grateful that PB is even caring to try to fix it with all the moaning and finger pointing going on about stuff they can't control. Get it? Got it? Good. Carry on. I'm not grateful at the fact their telling us to close our registration and that's it, instead of not giving us actual updates. I mean they can code an amazing v5 board but not catch a spammer? Come on son, this spammer has been floating around for months. They could at least keep us up to date. Well what else can be done? Proboards itself is a very secure site when it comes to hackability, but it can't control things such as cboxes and emails, those are different companies. What they're telling you to do is pretty much the extent that CAN be done on their end.

I mean you got people attacking your software, why let it get to the point where you have to tell your members to close your sign up page? I really don't know why I'm still commenting no matter what I say it'll just be Hey, your wrong proboards is awesome they'll fix it just wait in the mean time your forum can loose members and get attacked by pornz bleh.

My browser wouldn't load the images. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) That would be because we use the censored words list to change the url's. it's a great tip for other boards to use, it also means the images won't show in PM's either. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) That does explain a lot, actually haha.

Proboards have security measures in place so you can protect your boards, experience has shown that locking down your boards at least for a while makes the spammers etc get bored. Proboards as a company can help you to keep secure along with the controls available to you, and advice given in regards to emails and passwords. As for posting updates, if we telll you, we tell the perpetrators, i don't even know what is going on in the PB office to counteract attacks, but i can be confident they are't just working on V5.

So they should lock down all forums, put the site in MM mode until they can guarantee that the spammer will be dealt with other wise their just going to continue to get messages like this. It doesn't matter if this causes them to loose activity if the spammer continues to grow then they will loose it anyway, as I said coderscommunity is moving to a different service because of this spammer it really isn't fair.

OK, here goes: On discovering a spammer, you have the choice to put the board in Maint mode while you sort things out. while in MM, add the url's of bad images etc to the CWL. Ban the bad members. put the board on limited registrations then take it out of MM The community you have can still keep going, you still have the option to allow new members. Give it a week or so and try opening registrations.
This method has worked in the past, and will work for future problems, the tools are there to be used.

I don't think you understand the argument Ase, why should we have to change our forums when this spammer is obviously attacking proboards globally. They'll just return, look at cC we've been hit like 8 times and I spent 2-3 hours cleaning up the spam and you people wonder why I'm annoyed with proboards. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

This is just a small example of what we had to go through, sorry ZINC but I just wanted to get my point across. And yes we have turned on Limited Reg and MM each time we got hit. Attachments:![](//storage.proboards.com/1/thumbnailer/ua1ELAaHAk5XIzf8ImnZ.jpg)

Bleh. I'm not even willing to go on MM. I'm going to do what I want, normally ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Anyway, guys, please stop posting/ making threads about this. Giving him attention isn't helpful. This is my last post here.

If every person on this planet were given a personal identity number at birth, and they had to use that number for every online activity, then it would e simpler to ban the person forever. except for one thing, people don't always keep that sort of thing private, someone will find your ID number if you are careless. But that didn't happen, so we are dealing with faceless people who assume different identities to get around any ban we put in place. We could just ban the range of IP's used by spammers, but eventually that would lead to everyone (including innocents) getting banned. If you have a failsafe method of dealing with these people, you should market the idea as it would earn you millions. This is a discussion thread, llets not turn this into an argument of what you think are inadequacies of PB.

Hi guys,
We understand that some people here are frustrated with a certain spammer who has been going around. Since this started we have initiated a full investigation into this matter. We have been quiet about this because we know that the spammer has been reading topics here on the Support Board, and anything that we revealed could tip off the spammer.
We are fairly confident that we have identified who the spammer is, and have contacted their college where they have been making a lot of these postings from. If the postings do not fully stop we are considering instituting legal actions against this individual.
Know that we have not sat idle by doing nothing, but we had to build our case on this matter for the chance that this goes to court.
