I don't understand what your asking, do you mean how to link the images so when you click on them it takes you somewhere or how to make the image itself?

How to make the image itself.
Seen the sort of image on several forums (including my own but I didn't make them). Would be really handy to know myself since the guy the created the ones on my forums never comes online.
Just wondering what software is used really, is it possible on Powerpoint or do I need proper PhotoShop type stuff?

Not sure about Powerpoint since I have never used it, but you should be able to do these in Paint. However, for stuff like the dropshadow, you'd have to do that manually, I do believe.
In something like Paint Shop Pro, GIMP or Photoshop (GIMP is a free program by the way), you could use the pentool to do the outline/shape, and fill the inside with any colour you wish to. Then grab your text tool and add whatever text/letters you wish (choose the font + colour + stroke), and apply, rotate accordingly.
The second image could be done with using a rectangle selection tool, fill it with a flood fill, contract the selection by several pixels, and then fill the inside with another colour. The again, add your text, rotate it. Add a dropshadow, too.

Something as simple as Paint?! Thanks, I'll give it a try, hopefully paint won't affect the quality, will it?

it shouldn't as long as you save the image as a png instead of a jpeg

It would probably be best to use GIMP. It's a free program and has many features that the bigger programs have.

I'm making the images in Paint, making them transparent in GIMP.
Seems to be doing the trick. Thanks.
