I have an admin on my own board who does totally custom stuff for my board alone, and I want for him to be able to convert what he's done as well. Plus, I will want to convert for the other board that *I* admin on..

Once you convert, you can give the URL of the "test copy" to anyone you want, and they can login normally.

That's what I thought I'd seen Ryan say in the past. Thanks for confirming.

Patrick has said that once beta zone starts, they will offer a "non-facebook" way to request a copy of your forum to play on, if that helps.

As a admin of a forum, I wish to have this far in advance as possible, to make sure my skins and the like and anything I want to make, I have time to do so without being rushed. Sadly, Facebook has been the way for this to run, which while I signed up for it, I dislike that I had to in the first place. My facebook isn't under my real name, nor do I use it much unless I have to communicate with my younger friends who don't know what a home phone is, but to me, while I understand the appeal of it, it's just a bit odd.

I signed up for it- and I am glad that I can get a preview, because I've been wanting this forever, and I wish to do so much with the new forums. To me, it's a big win, but as in advertising and way of handling...not so much. I thank Proboards however for sending out a PM to tell me about this process, and informing us, since besides advertising my forum, I don't participate in Support that much. I also am glad that the people who go through the extra hassle, get it. While I think it was a good idea, all and all, Facebook is going to get a lot of groans from the general public who wish to be as off grid as possible.

But again, I would like to thank Proboards for their hard work and dedication of getting V5 up and available to admins, I know you're going to hear a lot of groaning from the non-Facebook crowd, but it'll be up eventually for everyone to get into, so it doesn't matter much. I can only hope that Beta Zone launches soon, I wish to get coding on new skins, and work with all the new features. ^^

Why the change? I'm still new here and still learning certain things now it's a whole new ball game. Omg... Do I have to sign up for this or can I remain with my regular forum? I rather remain where I'm at to be honest with you. I love it!

ProBoards V5 has been in development for several years now. This change has been coming for a long time now, actually.

When V5 is released there will be a 3 month transition period where you'll have the option to upgrade your forum whenever you're ready. However, once that 3 months is up your forum will automatically be upgraded.

My advice is this: Sign up for BetaZone so you can make a V5 copy of your forum. Figure out what's different in V5 and modify your forum copy accordingly so that when V5 does come out you'll know exactly what you're doing.

As far as V5 goes, I think the most drastic change that will take some adjustment is the change in the default forum layout. However, you'll have full access to the forum's HTML in this version so even if you have a complex skin with 300 lines of code in V4 it'll be much easier to remake this time around.

As for features, I think for the most part they're only adding things, so yes you'll have to learn a bit more but any knowledge you have about PB now will still retain its value since most of the current features will still remain.

Nope. Your original forum will be completely separate from your beta forum, so you can do anything to the beta copy and your original will be unaffected.
