Any chance of this making a reappearance in V5?
Thanks, Sam

All you have to do is press Alt+d or the home key on your keyboard.

There have been numerous discussions about this topic. You can easily add this to your forum yourself or use the shortcuts described. It won't be added as a feature, sorry.

I tried adding this to my GF's ... but to no avail. Would this be a template mod or a plug-in request? Either way, I'd like to get the 'Back to Top' put in the section where the arrow is -- above, the select a post. The reason I think a 'Back to Top' is useful is some of the threads can be quite long ... I use this feature tons of times a day.

But why do you need a link when all you have to do is press the Home button? Or Alt+D? Plus, not only does Alt+D take you to the top, it should drop down a menu like this, making it really easy to navigate elsewhere.

But why do you need a link when all you have to do is press the Home button? Or Alt+D? Because people might not always be using a keyboard?

Hmmm. Good point, Shrike. Obviously, I didn't think of that.

Simple, because the group of guys that are in my community lack in the savvy department -- to say the least. 'Back to Top' has been a staple within the PBs community for quite some time. v5 is going to be a massive change to the novice -- I think we tend to forget this at times. I must say, while I'm excited and open to change within v5, there are a few things I'm looking to keep simplistic for those that appreciate things the way they are in v4.5. That's all really.

M3, I have many members that are not really computer literate either. I plan to have tutorials with screenshots for all the stuff that's changing. A "Where you used to do abc, you now do xyz instead". In time, they will get it, I hope.

A simple way to add a back to top, add this to global header <a name="top"></a>
and add this to global footer <a href="#top">Back to top!</a> If you want an image (button) <a href="#top"><img src="URL OF IMAGE" /></a> You can add <center> tags etc to align it where you want, i just did the basic which is left aligned here as a demo Maybe someone can do plugin or template mod to place that where you want it if you don't like it at the bottom

The reason I think a 'Back to Top' is useful is some of the threads can be quite long ... I use this feature tons of times a day. If you really want that, try this in your global header. <script>
$(function(){ $("div.controls ul.options_menu").each(function(){ var clone = $(this).find("li:first").clone(); clone.find("a").click(function(){ $.scrollTo(0); }).html("Back To Top"); clone.find("span").remove(); $(this).append(clone); } });
</script>
