Currently, the proboards "news ticker" scrolls each message in the "news" from right to left, leaving it on the left for a second before scrolling the next message in. When it's done displaying all the news items, it then "rewinds" them and plays them back again. Is there any way to change this behavior, for example having it loop endlessly through the items without "rewinding" them, changing the scroll direction, etc? The only thing I can find is how to change the speed at which items are scrolled/displayed, at least currently.

P.S. I'm using FF 16.0.2 on Linux Mint 13 Maya, in case it matters.

Thanks, that's fair enough. I'll work on a plugin. I agree with the OP in the linked thread...the current method is ugly.

Just modify the prototype method _change to hide the div before it resets, then when the animation completes that scrolls back (will be hidden), display it. It will appear to wrap around without the "rewind" part.

Example of what I meant... $.ui.slidable.prototype._change = function(i){ var self = this; clearTimeout(this.autoChangeTimeout); if(typeof i == 'undefined') { i = this.index+1; } else if(i == 2) { // just to start it off i = 0; } else if(i == 0) { i = this.index-1; } else { i = this.index+1; } if(i < 0) { i = this.itemContainer.children().length-1; } else if(i > this.itemContainer.children().length-1) { i = 0; this.itemContainer.hide(); }
var left = i*this.actualWidth*-1 this.itemContainer.stop().animate({ left: left+'px' }, 750, function(){ if(i == 0){ $(this).show(); } }); this.index = i; if(this.options.relative) { var str = $(this.itemContainer).children('div').eq(i).text(); this.options.autoChange = this.calcChangeSpeed(str); } if(this.options.autoChange !== false) { this.autoChangeTimeout = setTimeout(function() { self._change(); }, this.options.autoChange); } }

Both Peter and I are using Firefox and the news feed is functioning properly for both of us. The news feed is supposed to scroll to the left after a certain interval to get to the next message, then scroll back to the right to get back to the first message once it's reached the last message. Nothing erratic about that behavior.

I've added more lines and it's working OK - sorry to say that so far I prefer v4.5 news fader with a code I'd added making it scroll.
