I can't be-leave V5 does not have a spell checker. Even V4.5 had a spell checker. I have bad spelling and use a spell checker constantly. I mostly use Internet Explorer and Firefox. Internet Explorer does not have any. Firefox has one, but it is really bad and inaccurate.

I've heard good things about ieSpell, an add-on for IE. You might try downloading and installing it. Then it won't matter whether any website has as spell checker or not.

I still think it would be a good idea to add one if its good.

I still think it would be a good idea to add one if its good. Why? In my opinion, it's a waste of time when the browser spell checker is perfectly fine, and the effort of the development team could spent on working on new features.

My Firefox built in spell check is just fine. Not sure where you get bad/inaccurate. And there are 2 threads now that have suggested IE spell check add ons.

Why? In my opinion, it's a waste of time when the browser spell checker is perfectly fine, and the effort of the development team could spent on working on new features. It is not fine: I don't recall the built-in spell checker PB uses being that great either so it's par for the course (at least from my perspective) This. I tried it a few times, and found it incredibly annoying. If nothing else, (as far as I remember) it picked up on spelling mistakes in usernames, ubbc/coding, and anything else that came up in a post. 'Timestamp' for example is not a recognised word in Chrome (and thus would get its own little notification in the integrated checker), and would thus come up EVERY TIME you quoted someone. More than once for multiple quotes in a post. And from what I remember, you had to cycle through every single spelling mistake too, which would take far too long for my liking. Plus, if the team behind Firefox can't make something you consider usable, why should PB (a smaller team, I've little doubt) be able to create one that's any better?

As everyone else has mentioned (that we previously mentioned): All modern browsers include a built in spell checker. Including the newer versions of Internet Explorer. We aren't going to devote the time and resources to implementing a spell checker for outdated browsers. In addition to the resources and work we would have to do it would also slow down v5 for everyone, including people who didn't need it. Every feature on the page adds weight to the load. A spell checker would be very heavy.
Most users either already have a spell checker or have the ability to make the changes necessary to spell check should they wish to.
We will not be adding a spell check to v5.

I had the same feeling when I first started working with v5 beta, because IE has no spell checker & I type very fast, but somewhat dyslexically. However, I did install the ieSpell and find that it does work just fine here. EXCEPT it's not as good as the spell checker that Proboards v4.5 has (not as many words are in the lexicon, I guess.)
Slight aside: What I'd really like is a customizable spell checker for IE. Oops, ieSpell is customizable, My bad.
Another aside: One problem with plug-ins for IE & for Firefox, are that it sometimes messes up how certain other sites work & plug-ins have to be turned on & off as needed, which is a real pain in the neck when you are going from site to site. It made me stop going to some sites because I was so tired of having to enable & disable certain plug-ins. SO I can see why some people wouldn't want to add multiple plug-ins to their browsers.

Sorry that you liked the v4.5 spellcheck more. Nothing we can really do about that.
Most spell checkers are customizable though.
Firefox doesn't require a plugin for spell checking. Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari and IE9+ all have spellcheckers built in with no additional work required. IE7 & IE8 both have add-ons available.

Right, ieSpell is customizable as I mentioned. But speaking of Firefox, and maybe I shouldn't ask this here, but Googling hasn't helped me figure out how to use it. I can't quite figure out how to run spell check in Firefox. I don't use FF for posting on our forums very often, because I prefer IE, but due to the lagtime in IE8, I decided to do some side-by-side testing of v5 in IE8 & FF-17 at the same time. Anyway, I just can't seem to find a way to run a spell check in FF after I compose a post. I guess I can keep Googling using different parameters, but if anyone here has a clue, I sure would appreciate a hint how to run the spell checker in FF. Well, I finally figured it out. One of the things about Firefox's spell checker is that it doesn't work the way I expected it to. It didn't pop-up with suggestions. I had to right click each word underlined in red in order to find the spelling corrections. And I was able to add ProBoards to the customizable list of words. So I did get it to work, so that's good. I guess this is a good learning experience.
