I don't like leaving guests can post wide open.. It's open for abuse now. I want guests to be able to post in shoutbox..
But I'd like CAPTCHA and the ability to IP ban abusers. I can do this on my iShoutbox that I use for v4.

I fail to see that guests have to use captcha to post on my Forum..But it is not carried over to the Shoutbox? Surely there is a solution? I would like guest shoutbox posting on with some protection..

Currently you can disable guest posting if you are concerned. Member posting is no different than a thread. You can delete shouts and punish members accordingly. We will discuss the option of adding a CAPTCHA to the guest Shoutbox. In the meantime in might be possible to create a plugin that adds a CAPTCHA though it wouldn't be as secure as if we added one.

I was gonna say, cant you just disable the guests form even posting in the shouts?

I was gonna say, cant you just disable the guests form even posting in the shouts? Yes, I know I can disable guest posting. But we are a gaming board..And friends stop by from time to time. I don't want them to go through having to sign up for the board. I also don't want to leave the wide open for abuse guest posting on. So I thought captcha might be ok. Guests have to use captcha to post on my Forum..Why not on the Shoutbox? Most 3'rd party shoutboxes that people use in v4 have this feature..

Whether a CAPTCHA is inserted, its not going to stop abuse, and certainly wont stop guests either. I will say though, it might be a good touch.

It won't stop all abuse.. but it does slow it down.. It is already implemented for guest posting on my Forum.. I'd simply like it carried over to the v5 shoutbox.

And I know I can still use my iShoutbox instead of v5 version.. but I'd rather use PB features and rely less on 3'rd party apps.. v5 will host so many more things..avatar, icons, the shoutbox, etc,etc..this means A much faster loading time for the Forum..

The Shoutbox does already have flood control and like Thomasss said, it's wont actually stop guests from spamming.
