I'd like to request the ability to select hiding member profiles from guests by default. Yes, I know this is an option on a member's profile, but we are a self-help group who want to keep a low profile. Telling every single user to set it to private seems ridiculous if we can do it automatically with a plugin or code.

Global header...
<script>
if(proboards.data("route").name == "edit_user_privacy"){ $(function(){ $("input[name=guests_can_view_profile]").attr("checked", "checked"); }); }
</script>

Hi @tossmoder,
I tested the code again, and it's working fine for me.

I've tried it several times, peter. I even deactivated a smiley plugin from Todge, just in case that was interfering, and it still doesn't work. I refresh, log in as a guest, and still see member's profiles when I click on their names.

I think there is some confusion here, maybe.
The code I posted will auto select the radio button to hide profiles from guests when you goto your "Privacy" tab, you then would need to save your profile.

It did. Thank you, Peter. That said, we have well over 2000 members, some of who are very quiet and don't make alterations to their profiles. Is there any way this could be implemented without going into their privacy tabs and saving the setting?

Ahh ..I guess in a sense this is a good thing. I'm guilty of playing Big Brother to my Members. And I see other posts on the board here from other Admins who I think need to leave Privacy controls in their Members hand.
I think the changes will be good..
I think we as Admins should let our members make there own choices on Privacy, etc..

I think we as Admins should let our members make there own choices on Privacy, etc.. I disagree. It isn't good. We have a self-help forum and would like to be able to control who sees profile information. Yes, we know we could control access by closing down the forum so no one could view it without petitioning to become a member, but we have a lot of information for lurkers which needs to be available. It is a self-help website similar to Alcoholics Anonymous, although not about drug or alcohol abuse. In the course of coming to terms with our issues and treating it, people deal with shame. Admitting the problem is difficult enough without worrying that Google will bring up their profiles in a causal search. Some of the members are even afraid to talk to the moderators. I'm disappointed.

I have a script that will hide a members profile if a guest is viewing it. Would you like it? It doesn't stop google from searching it though(sorry )

<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
if(proboards.data('route').name == "user" && proboards.data('user').is_logged_in != 1) {
$('div.container.show-user').html('<div class="title-bar"><h2>Error</h2></div><div class="content cap-bottom" style="padding:5px;">You do not have permission to view this page</div>');
}
});
</script>
You can edit the red to say whatever you want. The "Error" is the title part of the container, and the "You do not have permission to view this page is the content of the container.
