Request: Replace Cat/Legend/Infocenter w/ Images

Okay, I loaded the plugin up on the test site.

I only loaded "Official" and the "infocenter" images right now so that I could get a general idea on spacing problems which may occur.

Testing:

• When putting in the "text" you wish to replace for categories it will flag as "invalid URL".
• When placing an image into the field, allow for editing dimensions.
• A reminder to anyone whom will eventually use this, if you changed your "Legend" or "Statistics" text under Template>Home to an image/alternate text make sure to change it back or change it to something that the plugin can target or else it will not overwrite it.

So far I have tested it with the following plugins enabled and have seen no problems with it conflicting with their function:

• Classic ProBoards Menu
• Sidebar Redux
• Dynamically Tabbed Table
• Collapsible Categories
• Board Description Images
• Different On/Off Icons for Different Boards.
  
• Text to Image
• Peekaboo (basic) Right Side (BZ) 0.1.6 L
• Glide Menu
  

Additional Thoughts:

• Definitely need to be able to edit the dimensions of the image to stop clipping from occurring.
  
• Choose which skins you want to apply them for. (I personally need this.)
  

So far it is working as intended without causing problems with the terrible gradient or dynamic spacing used for the cat header object. (This is what the problem was in the first place if you just placed an image in the area of the "text" title through your Visual Editor/category&board options. It would leave a terrible 15-20px gap between the cat header and the forum list. With this plugin this does not occur so far; thus I consider the plugin a great improvement over something proboards probably should have identified as a "bug" earlier.

yeah it was never meant to replace with text.. I thought the point of the code was to replace that text with an image?

I can put in stuff for dimensions, but it occurs to me that the image can be hosted at the correct dimensions just as well.

I didnt have legend in there, so I will add that in as well.



as for skins, do you mean not running the plugin on certain skins? because that can easily be done on the plugin management settings. or something more complicated?

Oh, as far as the thing displaying "invalid URL" it was not for the url link (second text field in the plugin) it was saying it for the first one for the text you replace. That is what caught my attention as odd.

Unfortunately, even for the images that I host, it was clipping them down to only the dimensions of the gradient bar - not the full size of the image. Dimensions would have to be necessary since it does not default at the original size of the hosted image.

It would have to allow you to select which skin to use for the images. That way you could have different images to go with different skins. There is a plugin which already uses this feature (Classic ProBoards Menu) that can be used as an example.

Normally when I make skins I change the layout/images completely. So I would have to somehow be able to designate a skin to those images if it is possible for this plugin.

I get it.

and I get what you mean on dimensions now. I thought you were talking about the dimensions of the title replace image, not the entire div itself.

if you want to get rid of the text completely, replace it with a 1px by 1px blank image. if you leave that field blank, it wont replace the text.

I will add a skin selection on the autoform as well.

Alright, yeah, sorry if it was of any confusion. I usually remove the text with a blank image anyhow, it will be helpful for others whom might use this to have that pointed out (which you did.)

Wormie, I will just say this right now. I love you. It works perfectly. I tested it with different skins and tried to break it by loading all the other current plugins that we use, as well as trying to change the dimensions of cells/gradients within the visual editor to see if it would create gaps, clipping, or margin errors spreading the tables apart.

So far none of that has happened and the images actually are displayed properly.

My last thought on this is that you may wish to make the "Category" area one tab and another (combined tab) for "Legend" and "Info Center"... We don't have very many categories but some sites have quite a large number of them. So for every skin that they would want to change the displays for, the longer they would have to scroll to the bottom to put in the images for the legend and info center areas.

Now, I just have to see if I can con Brian into a similar update for his "Sidebar Redux" to allow the creation of different side tables as per skins.

I would shower you in gummy worms but I am unsure if their jellied bodies would horrify you or enact some form of cannibalism....

I feel all warm and fuzzy inside after testing this out.

Its too hot here to be covered in gummy worms. that would likely end in disaster.

I like the idea of separate tabs so I can incorporate that. I will submit that version to the library. it might erase your current data fields if you try to update the one you currently have, I dont know.

That is fine, I only have 8 categories so I can easily update it when the tabs are worked in.

Wormo stuck with a layer of sugary coating, I don't know what to think about that. Perhaps the gummies won this round? I shall check back at a convenient time over the next how many days to see if the finished version is available. No rush on it. I am going to go stalk Brian tomorrow and see what he has to say about letting his plugin work with themes.

I will be curious if anyone finds gap problems with this or not in the future. For us, it solved the entire problem we were having.
