they all are. I would need to see it not working in order to know what is up. I have never had it fail like you are saying.

Perhaps the Styled Member Names plugin conflicts with the ColorSmear...?

There is a first time for everything. colorsmear will wrap each letter in a font tag and apply a color to it. styled member names typically uses CSS applied to the anchr tag. so colorsmear should still sit on top of it color wise. other things would still push through like bold or font family though.
I can only say I would need to see it fail in order to understand why it failed.. but I cant get it to fail on my own.

I actually ran it by itself and it worked, so you have some other code that is overwriting what colosmear has already done. try styled member names running first.

You mean drag Styled above the SmearColor plugin? Done. But I can't see that it affects anything...

ok so I debugged through both colorsmear and styled names. and it actually runs both of them just fine. then some other code after them is apparently converting everything inside a user link back to plain text. I picked out a few I thought were doing it, but I didnt find it. so the next step would be to disable all plugins except colorsmear and styled member names. see if it works fine that way. then turn on a few at a time. if it still works, you ruled out the ones you turned on. if it stops working, turns back off one at a time the ones you just turned on. that should tell you which plugin is resetting the names.

After much testing, I think I've found the offending plugin! I think it's the "Maximum Display Name Length" plugin that's causing the problem.

There we go. I dont even think I saw that one (but then not all plugins have their name in the code itself to make it easier to identify).
your next step would be to go to the support thread for that plugin (or tag its author in a new thread) and tell them what is happening. put a link back to these posts so they can get some background.

I've actually forgotten where I got the plugin, since it is not here in the plugin library. ^^;

Would it be possible to add the ability to make user names bold to this plugin? I ask because I was using the Styled Member Names plugin to color and bold my staff's user names. Unfortunately that only worked with the Recently Updated Threads Sidebar on some pages and not on others. Since this plugin is now fully compatible with Todge's RUT Sidebar Plugin I can use that to produce the color I want(simply set the start and end colors as the same for Staff members), but I can't make them bold with this plugin. Also, just want to say I love the ability to color general member's names with this plugin, that's awesome!

I was under the impression you could just add CSS to the style sheet to bold groups names
.group1 {font-weight: bold}
