help please! "password incorrect" error - V5

Hi. I have another member login problem affecting several people. One is in this post, and others are mentioned in subsequent posts.

First username is hellokitty78. She has been a member of notmsnmoney.proboards.com for over a year, and I've confirmed that same account is on the betazone board (notmsnmoney.freemessageboards.com). She has successfully created a global id - on this board, actually - using the same username of hellokitty78. I have tried for myself to get her signed in on my beta board and just cannot do it.

1. I went to notmsnmoney.freemessageboards.com, and logged in with her global id successfully.

2. I see

You have successfully logged into your ProBoards global account.

Do you already have an account on notmsnmoney.freemessageboards.com? If so, enter your username and password below to link your forum account to your ProBoards global account. If not, you can create a new forum account.

3. I enter hellokitty78 and her password (verified on the regular board as being correct) and receive a "We're sorry. The password you entered is not correct. Please try again." error.

I have tried on both Firefox and IE and it's the same on both.

I have another member with the same problem, only she doesn't have a global account yet. I have verified the password is correct but it tells me it isn't.

Her user id is 3catslady.

Still having an issue - tried changing my password and stuff too... can log in here fine, there it says my password isn't correct.

I've had the same experience trying to link another board account to my ProBoards global ID, moonbeam. I went to their beta site and experienced the same thing the above two posters encountered.

Think I may have one more. User ID is artemis3044, and from what she is describing, it sounds like she has a global ID, but she doesn't remember upgrading to one. However, when she goes to my beta zone, it gives her the LINK page, like it wants to link this account to that global ID. And none of her passwords are working for her, either.

Ok. This is ridiculous. I have members who cannot upgrade and I can't get any help for them?

Hi moonbeam,

In the future, can you post these sort of issues in the Bugs area? I didn't get the notification about being tagged here, and didn't see this thread until now. I check the bugs area as frequently as support, so you would get a quicker response for these sort of issues. My apologies for the delay, however, and have moved this topic to the bugs area.

With that noted, I will be bringing this to the attention of our developers so they can look into what the issue might be.

Typically a good rule of thumb is that if the same issue crops up for more than 2 users around the same time period (especially if you're able to verify the issue), then it would be classified as a bug

I submitted the ticket last night as a priority ticket, so hopefully we should hear something back about this today. I'll let you know what I hear back, assuming a developer doesn't post in this topic themself

I'm trying to upgrade. I selected "Login"
It brings up my Username & Password (fields already filled in for me)
I continue
next screen has my username in gray & it won't let me type over it, & the email field has my correct email
the fields i can type in are "new password" & "verify password"
I type in my password & at the top, in red it says "Enter username" & "1" is below it.
Please let me know what I need to do.
FYI: I am on an iMac using Safari if you need to know.

I have a member reporting this error now too.

Even though I have the name entered (nasagreen), it says:

Hi moonbeam,

I'm a member of the development team. I've been looking into the issues that your members have been having. It looks like for the first scenario - where it says, "The password you entered is not correct" - I was able to confirm that artemis3044 does in fact have the same password on both your original forum and your BetaZone forum. Due to the way our password system works, I cannot tell what the password actually is, just if it is the same in both places.

Did you try to log in with her information in both forums? I know you said you tried this for the other users experiencing problems.

You mentioned that bmephdinco changed their password, so I'm unable to tell what the original problem may have been. For bmephdinco and the others, I can see that their passwords are different on the original forum and your BetaZone forum. It may be that they changed their password on the original forum, and didn't realize that their password on the BetaZone forum would stay the same. If they're trying to log in to the BetaZone forum, it's important that they use whatever password they were using when the BetaZone forum was created.

If they still have login problems, they can use the Password Recovery page - which for you would be:
www.proboards.com/forgot/4854974

Now onto the second scenario - the one that Dreamer21821 and nasagreen are experiencing. I'm going to look into this right away, and I'll get back to you within a couple of hours.

I did not try to log artemis3044 in, as she didn't want to give me her PW- which I understand.

RE: bmephdinco and 3catslady, I will have them try again, making sure they use whatever their password *used* to be before they changed it. I'll also pass on the password recovery page.

For hellokitty78 though, I can successfully login to her global account, but neither her new password, nor the one it used to be, work. She had given me the previous one as well, just in case. I just tried it, actually, within the last 30 min.

Thanks so much for the help. I am curious though.. What if we just don't worry about it until after upgrade? I'm planning to do that on Wednesday, since I have the required 120 points to do so. Should they then be able to access because the password will be whatever they changed it to?

You're welcome! Yes, that's a good point about the upgrade, since in 4 days you won't have to worry about BetaZone issues anyway. You're correct, any access problems should go away once you upgrade, and whatever their password is set to will carry over to the new forum. Please let us know if there are any problems after that time.
