Hello Friday!
I wanted to post a slight update to the events in the coming week.
On Monday (possibly Tuesday) we will be looking at the current rankings. In their order at the time we look, we will be giving the first forum that wants it, the opportunity to upgrade to v5.
The reason for this is so we can do some final testing in advance of the more widespread updates on Wednesday, January 16th, the day when forums who earned 120 points or more can upgrade.
I will be PMing some of the forums that are currently near the top with some additional information about what being part of a testing phase could entail. This way I will know ahead of time who is even interested.
The purpose of this post was to give advance notice that early next week a forum or 2 will get v5 so it is not a surprise to anyone, or so that nobody thinks there is any form of special treatment.
Thank you to everyone who is participating in the v5 Beta and the Beta Contest!

Just a few questions ... 1. As long as we have the required 120 points or more to receive the upgrade -- will we for sure be able to upgrade on the 16th? (I just want to relay accurate info to my members) 2. Assuming 'Yes' is the answer for question 1 -- will this come in the form of a PM or will it show up in the admin section for us to 'proceed via link' with the upgrade? 3. Once the upgrade has started with my forum, do you have a ballpark figure as to how long it will take? 12 hours, 24 hours, etc? Thanks for the taking the time in answering my questions ... *War Proboards*

Even if you aren't in the top 10, you should have the chance to upgrade on January 28, I believe.

When you click to upgrade, you are placed into the update queue (similar to BetaZone). As we get closer to Jan 28th, more and more forums will be upgrading, so we expect queue times to increase. 2) It will show up in the admin area automatically when you are able to upgrade. 3) Depends on how many people in queue. Could be a few minutes to a few hours during the first few days, I would estimate.

Will you be given any guestimate of how long the update queue is before clicking to join it?
If we put our forum into maintenance mode (not sure I know how to do that in V4...) will it still convert okay?
Thanks ^^

A little question. Would it ease the conversion if we got rid of the codes in our forum before we press the button? Cause when I got the beta version of my forum, it looked a bit odd with stuff showing from the profiles that I had added.

Cause when I got the beta version of my forum, it looked a bit odd with stuff showing from the profiles that I had added. That's a great question skindstad and even I would like to know the answer to this one. It will not make a difference. 1) If they store data (i.e. profile editable codes), removing the codes will not remove that data. Instead, we will have to write cleanup scripts down the road to just hide it. 2) If they modify the page (i.e. remove last post column), they won't actually execute on v5 because they're removed from your headers/footers. Hope that answers your questions.

Okies. Thanks. Although I've removed the code that caused problems last time, so hopefully I won't have any weird images show up on the front of the forum

The current plan is midnight tonight. We are working on fixing one last login issue that is affecting some users. We will update if there are any minor delays before midnight.
