Incidentally, regarding the time scale before being allowed to give again, is it possible to prevent giving karma to the same person in a set period, without affecting the ability to give it out generally ? Do you mean, before a person can give the same person karma, or the person can't recieve any extra karma from anyone it a set period? Don't know the answer to this and recommend you wait for a reply from shortyverrett94. I've just tried it out, and noticed that there is no indication to inform you that you've used the system by way of message, or light going out etc. We used one on another forum, and the basic set up was that you gave pos or neg rep to a member, and the ability to leave a message why, which was viewable only to that member from a reputation tag in their profile page. You couldn't rep the same post twice, and had to 'spread it around' before coming back to the member , say, 20 other reps, etc. This stopped butt kissing or bullying etc. If you gave rep, there would be a clear indication, such as a thank you message etc, where as on this, it seems to be just a grey word, with no hover colour, or indication that it is active etc. I don't really know how I could go about adding any of that.

Yeah, before giving it to the person again. Scenario 1: I don't like Tommy. Every 30 minutes, I visit his post or page, and take from his Karma, making Tommy look bad, and poor Tommy doesn't know why his Karma is low. Fix: I try to give Tommy Karma, and get the message "You must spread Karma around before giving it to Tommy again", or similar. The setting could be that I have to give 'x amount' of Karma out, before returning to Tommy, presuming you have enough members etc. Scenario 2: I have a great relationship with Anne (could be my wife etc) so every time I log on I 'up' Annes Karma, and she kindly recipitates. It simply makes a farce of the whole thing. Originally, it was all meant to be a pat on the back thing to encourage posters, and obviously keep them in line, but it can quickly turn into a war should the necessary boundaries not be controlled etc.

To be perfectly honest I think if forum admins are that concerned about people using the Karma system in the way you've highlighted then perhaps they just shouldn't use it and stick to the 'like' system, using the like counter plug-in. It's that simple to me...and I'd like Shorty to shorten the code so it loads quicker.

Let's not bother with laws, or speed limits. That's far too complicated lol. Nobody is 'concerned' as such. My point was derived from experience, not anxiety.

I hardly think a karma system that essentially amounts to nothing, on an online forum, is comparable to laws or speed limits in the real world but at any rate, I believe the point is that if you have someone abusing it, admins should handle the abusers directly & individually rather than have to alter the karma system directly. Either the admins handle the person(s) doing it or just don't use the karma system at all. As an admin myself, I'd be more concerned with the person abusing the system, than the system itself.

I've deleted the system from my forum, but thanks for the administrative advice.

Ignore my suggestion. I've deleted the system from my forum, but thanks for the administrative advice. Honestly, I completely agree with your suggestion, I really do. But I don't know how I could do it(I'm not that great at coding), and if I could it would probably double the size of the code.

It seems you don't have the latest version of the plugin. Can you redownload the updated version, and tell me if it is still happening?
