I was skeptical at first..... dead set against it. Now, I wouldn't go back. V5 makes everything a whole level easier. Remember also, that PB are constrained by laws, so when saying you can't see this or that, it's because of privacy law changes, but the functionality remains the same. To be honest, PB should be commended for that as it shows they are at the top of the game If there was no progress, we'd still be living in caves.

I honestly just think people forget what it was like when they were brand new to ProBoards; I'm 99% positive it was an adjustment then, too. New things always have a learning curve. I remember being wide-eyed and intimidated when I first joined ProBoards. "There's no way I can learn how to navigate this!" I screamed internally. You have to keep in mind though, we as a society, have become lazy and we "want now", so "must have now", rather than putting any effort into anything. No offense but I don't see how it's lazy that I don't want to have to struggle to completely redo the site that I have been struggling to put together for months, yes -months-. No I don't know coding that well, but i was piecing it together, finding coding people put up and diligently figuring out how to do more than just edit the basic parts most people would have. I not only have coding for my Global headers/footers, but also coding on each of my boards and suboards. I have seen an example of what a site looked like when it was first converted, and I don't think I should have to go through the hassle of redoing over 30 pages (and this is the site that isn't even finished yet and most of those pages were going to be explored for adding additional things on them ) for no reason. Plus this isn't the only site I run. This has nothing to do with laziness, and everything to do with the fact that I already have put significant work into the sites I have, and don't have the -time- to sit around and redo all of this when I already have a significant amount of work on my plate. It's one thing to make us all use the new format for new ones, fine when I have a site that I am building from the scratch again I don't mind that, but making us switch is bull. I'm half tempted to just scarp all my forums because frankly, it was enough work redoing these sites because I left Webs for this. So what, if my sites are a success when version 6 comes out it's going to be the same story?

So what, if my sites are a success when version 6 comes out it's going to be the same story? I understand your frustration, but upgrades have to happen with anything technical and this problems is faced in all the technical fields. Believe it or not, in most cases with technical applications not only do you have to upgrade, you have to pay for the upgrade! It's a natural law with technology unfortunately, and this modernized upgrade is overdue for security for your users as well as many other reasons. The version 4 software has been in use for a decade, but a lot more planning has gone into the version 5 design so future updates will be much smoother. In other words, don't worry about a version 6 upgrade. The internet changed more than anyone would have imagined over the past decade so this upgrade is a little more difficult than the previous updates. But believe me that it is necessary because it is important to keep up in order to be safe and to attract new members. The reason why this update is somewhat challenging for people is because the HTML and CSS have been modernized which is different for a lot of people (lot's of divs and CSS involved). However, this is countered with the fact that you have direct access to the HTML and CSS via the templating system so if you learn a little HTML and CSS customizing your forum becomes very easy. Templates are what you should get used to working with now to customize your forum in addition to plugins. And be aware that every day more resources are being added to this forum, whether it's plugins, themes, codes, template mods or even tutorials. Eventually there will be more resources for v5 than v4. Proboards has quadrupled their official support team with qualified people so there are many people on this forum who can help you.
