Could you please change "Username" into "E Mail"?

One of my members got heavily confused by Username because he tried to log in with his Username and failed. A few minutes ago I told him to log in with his e mail address and apparently he had success. So could please change the text into "Username/E Mail" or "E Mail" so that the members don't get confused by the request of the username? Most people think of their forum moniker and not of their e mail.

It is Username.

It used to say Username/Email but people were getting confused in large numbers, and didn't understand that they could enter either one. And the very first time someone uses v5 they must enter their username. But people kept trying to enter their emails and were having issues too. So it's just Username, and will remain just Username.

One of two things was happening to your member.

1) They messed up their username.

or

2) They set their Security setting on their Global Profile to be Email Login only. That is a setting people choose to do themselves. So if he did that then he should have known that. In that case we do that for security and we don't say email, so as not to confuse people.

It is clearly explained at upgrade/registration that you can enter either when logging in. If someone upgrades their security to be email only, then they should know it's email only. There's no way to know a persons setting before they login so we can't display different things based on their setting beforehand.

Thank you Ryan Roos. Funny thing is: something crazy happened. I can log in with my moniker again - and he can, too. And honestly I can't remember changing my account settings. In fact I just discovered the global account settings a few minutes ago. I'm not moaning, it's great, but surprising.

Has Proboards somehow changed the default setting? Because if not, I somehow changed something without remembering it.

I don't understand what you're asking. Are you saying that your default was set to Email only even though you've never been on the Global Settings page before? You Global Settings are the same here as on your forum. So If you set it here it applies on your forum as well.

I'll double check the default because Email only is incorrect by default. Let me know please. Thank you.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Aside from today, I've never been (knowingly) been into the global settings and I honestly can't remember changing anything to E Mail only. And I don't remember changing it back either. It justed worked - for me and for the member in question, so I assumed one of the ProBoards developers changed the default setting. Either way, I don't know why it now works for me and the member. Maybe we both changed something without realizing it? Sorry for the bother, I'm genuinely not trying to take the p*ss, I'm amazed myself. But as I said, now it works with my username so everything is fine.

It's not a bother. I need to investigate. If it's getting set to Email only than that's a bug we need to fix. Thank you.
