Is it possible to verify my site for Google on V.5?
Using the Meta tag method?

Meta tags work the same universally for every site, so you should be able to do the same thing you did in V4.

I tried but it didn't work...? I put the Google site verification meta tag in my global header and it keeps saying verification failed.

It will most likely be expecting to find them in the <head> of the site. If you edit the Global Wrapper layout template on your default theme (the one Google will see), you should be able to do this, just put the code above the closing </head> tag.

I have it like this, which isn't working... I get 503 (Service unavailable)... You can try moving to be just below the opening <head> tag and see if that helps. Otherwise, you'll need to check Google Support to see what it says the problem is. The 503 error code indicates that the verification tools on Google's side couldn't load your forum properly, so it may just be a temporary loading issue.

Would Maintenance mode effect it?

Would Maintenance mode effect it? Yes, if your forum is in maintenance mode, that would affect it. Google can only see what a guest would be able to, and templates/headers/footers/plugins don't run on any sort of login page. Edit: And I see you realised this
