gazza007: I found a defect in the code and have repaired the plugin. It will be available in the plugin library shortly as v1.1.2, but I've also attached it to this post. Please let me know if you continue to experience issues.

Sorry, but how does one "mark up" the required fields to get it to work?

edit. Scratch that. I did a clean re-install without importing settings from the previous version this time.

Description:

Adds WYSIWYG editor support for embedding SoundCloud and MixCloud tracks in posts. The tracks can be identified by their embed codes, Wordpress codes, or track URLs, all of which can be obtained from the Share option associated with tracks on soundcloud.com and mixcloud.com. The plugin adds a button to the WYSIWYG editor (and if present, the augmented Quick Reply) that inserts a [sound] tag in BBCode mode and a SoundCloud/MixCloud placeholder in Visual mode. When posted, the contents of a [sound] tag are replaced by an embedded SoundCloud/MixCloud player and (optionally) a link to the embedded track. Note that prior to v1.1.0, VSoundCloud used [soundcloud] tags rather than [sound] tags in the BBCode mode of the editor. When updating to v1.1.0+, tracks embedded by previous versions of VSoundCloud will still function properly but will be represented by [sound] tags in the editor. Customizable settings in the plugin UI are: URL or graphic resource used for the WYSIWYG editor button editor button tooltip and 'Insert Track' dialog box caption instructions presented to the user in the 'Insert Tack' dialog box error message presented to the user when an invalid/unknown track is specified SoundCloud player markup MixCloud player markup The plugin is equipped with a stylesheet that can be edited in the 'Build' mode of the plugin to fully customize the look and feel of the SoundCloud player, MixCloud player, SoundCloud placeholder and/or MixCloud placeholder in the WYSIWYG editor. The plugin is also equipped with reasonable default settings to work 'out of the box'.

Fig. 1 - An editor button allows for simple insertion of SoundCloud/MixCloud tracks in both editor modes. Visual mode is shown here, with the default 'insertscmc' resource (packaged with the plugin) used as a button graphic. Clicking the button will open a dialog where an embed code, Wordpress code, or track URL can be entered/pasted to insert a track. Tracks appear as placeholders in the visual mode of the editor, with a look and feel defined by the editor stylesheet in the 'Build' section of the plugin. The default L&F is shown here.

Fig. 2 - The editor is shown in BBCode mode, where embedded tracks are represented by [sound] tags. The track is inserted at the caret (cursor) location. The tag can also be typed in manually.

Fig. 3 - When viewed in threads, tracks are replaced by standard SoundCloud/MixCloud players and links to the embedded tracks. The exact markup used to render the players and links is customizable in the plugin UI. The look and feel can also be modified by editing the display stylesheet in the 'Build' section of the plugin. The default L&F as of v1.1.0 is shown here.

hello

the plugin doesnt seem to work for guests, it puts the code around the soundcloud code in the post, but it doesnt show up when you press create thread.

Any idea ?


edit: this is really important for my site to run as it is, so im just saying i could do with figuring this out asap, just so you know the embed and youtube ones work fine its just the soundcloud probeats.proboards.com/

I'll tell you what: I'll freeze VSoundCloud at the current version and port the code over to a new plugin, "VAudio", and augment it so that it can handle a variable number of embeds that can be customized in the UI. I'll set the default settings to embeds for SoundCloud, MixCloud, and ReverbNation. As this ecosystem continues to grow, you can be my eyes and ears as to where people are hosting their audio, and I'll update the default settings.

I'm at the end of another project now, and I have an upcoming modification to VDice, hence this will have to wait at least a few weeks, though.

I'm guessing it will be at least three years before plugin developers have the option to charge money for the plugins they develop.

On top of that, I don't plan on charging for the plugins I develop anyway. Charging money for plugins gives users the reasonable expectation of QA, code maintenance, etc.  While I generally do my best in these regards, I'm personally happier reserving my right to code only-partly-tested plugins I can just walk away from.
