I've read the threads on why email is not allowed

I am NOT one who complained, other than missing the ability to add to stopforumspam.com.

That said, I don't have a problem with sharing MY personal email. I have one set up just for the board, and I already make it visible to all. I would never make a decision that would then publish my staff's emails, however. I value their privacy as much as I do that of my members. In fact, I don't email my members from my personal account unless they email me first (or I have permission from them because we're friends off the board). In general, I really only mail my members via the forum tools, and even then it's only been under special circumstances - like when we upgraded to v5. I did so then so that any members having trouble logging in could get help from me.

Long story short, even if something like this was available, I would not do it, because I honestly don't feel it's necessary.

The logic that you apply to not wanting to give your staff emails out is the same as ProBoards not wanting to give out all of it's members emails.

If your staff can see a member's email then why can't a member see the staff email? How is that different. As a member on a forum I don't know who the admin has made staff or if they can be trusted. Why should they see my email address, unless I can see theirs?

In my above idea members cannot see other member's emails. And a member can only see staff emails once they are registered. Meaning you could still do your stopforumspam check on pending members before they are approved.

Just things to ponder. And again, we haven't discussed this at all internally so my whole idea could be moot.

i think this would be good proposition proboards point of view... it would definitely solve the problem here on the support forum... although i would have to input that staff members should not see emails unless they can ban or modify profiles or passwords in anyway,
if they're just say a moderator of a board simple move/delete/edit threads...
theres no point in them seeing emails neither give theirs out...

so i would suggest to change this condition only.
"2. At registration new members are notified that this forum displays email addresses to it's "Admin" and warns them about the risk to their global account."

also i wouldn't do this at all, unless,
i had the option to send them a password reset and only once the clicked the link in the email and reset their password from the page would it actually change.

As all i care for is:

Member says: i forgot my account details... can you help
My Reply: your user name is joe123 you should have a email sent to [e-mail] to change your password

but if i have to be honest... i dont need it THAT much if this is the way it is, its the way it is, proboards V5 makes up for it in my opinion.

as of right now i can still say:

Member says: i forgot my account details... can you help
My Reply: you should have a reset password link in your email that you signed up with and your username is joe123
Member says: What email address was that?
My Reply: i cannot see that information sorry :S

because i'm not sure if i'm actually allowed technically
but i just put my members user name in the "i forgot my password" page knowing it will send them a email...

Yeah, I can see a few of the things you're saying. This might talk help us come up with a solution that works for everyone. This is why I like talking things out with you guys.

You and I talked in that other thread about the password thing. I still stand by that isn't directly needed. Honestly, and I didn't say this before but you could go to the login, click forgot password and enter their email. If they are trying to get help from you and trust you then you can help them. We just aren't going to make a button that emails out passwords. But you could get them started on the recovery process.

and i hope the No 2 condition is a good one to change and is a visable one for your discussion
