Not really important but certainly annoying. Since I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome to see if it would fix the issue with my "admin" account either not staying logged in or being switched to another account, I have noticed that any attachments when I click on them are no longer opening up and downloading them to my computer. Ack, I don't want that. So, is this something to do with ProBoards, or something that I've not checked or unchecked in the Chrome settings?!

Hey again Mands! I was able to confirm that you are I are currently running the same version of Chrome, and I'm able to view attachments without trouble - does visiting this link prompt a download for you?

Hi David Clark No, that link opened up as normal on a new tab. I wouldn't even have been aware of the issue, except I went on someone's topic to see if I could hlep and when I clicked on their attachment {shrunk down to thumbnail size} it didn't even come up with the prompt to download, it just did it. LOL I then wondered if there is something I need to check or uncheck in the settings to fix it. Edit: Not that I want to count my chickens before they're hatched - but my "admin" account was logged in today! Not logged out and not a different account either. Not sure if the push has gone through yet or if uninstalling and reinstalling actually worked.

If not, it will open a link, all you need to do is right click, and save image as. Just new chrome updates

Mands, I believe that attachments uploaded as images should always open up in a new tab, displaying the image - its when non-image attachments are uploaded that it'll prompt you to download them onto your computer. I'm not 100% on this, but could it be that the attachment you're referring to was formatted incorrectly? I, too recall clicking on an attachment link this morning, and having it open a download window for a file only named "jpg" (user error on that one, heh). Of course since it didn't have a file format (jpg.jpg would have been correct, hilariously enough), it couldn't be detected as an image and therefore prompted me to download it.

Before I reinstalled Chrome, when I clicked on a "view attachements" it opened up in front of me, right on that page. To get out of it I had to hit the back space key. Now it is AUTOMATICALLY downloading it, I'm not even getting a prompt.

What you describe about it just saying "jpg" is what it said to me, but I didn't get a PROMPT - if I had I'd have refused it, it just automatically downloaded it!!!! That's why I am wondering if there is something in the Chrome settings that I am not aware of that I have to change, and with me not being techno minded, I have no clue. Sorry.

You'll want to click the three lines in the top right corner and select "Settings" from this list - at the bottom, click "Show Advanced Settings". Down the page a bit you'll see a section called "Downloads". Make sure the box there is checked; here's an image showing what to look for. This setting will ask you where to save the file each time Chrome wants to download something, which can also act as a time-out you can use to make sure you actually wanna download the file.

That's what I thought it was and I did all of that last night after reinstalling it. But when I clicked on that thumbnail attachment it was after I had made that change. Yet it still automatically downloaded it, I had no way of stopping it. I have mine set to save to desktop. #weird! What is it with me and weirdness?! I seem to apparently fix one issue to get another. I hate technology!

I don't want people's attachments automatically downloading to my computer, what would I want with them?!

Now, Google Chrome gremlins are messing with us, though i think a PB admin could do some more digging.

Yeah I think so... thankfully I don't deal with attachments on my own forum, I only ever click on them on here. So if it happens again, I'll just delete said image. LOL Chrome Gremlins, I like it!
