Can't change themes

I made a new theme with a new logo image link. I made it the default theme. It's checked as the default theme. But no matter how many times I do it the original theme remains. And every time I go to modify the new theme the image link is gone. I'm saving it, but it won't take.

I can't switch themes, and I can't switch logo images. What am I doing wrong?

This new interface sucks so much. I used to do this stuff in two clicks, now I have to wade through massive menues, and then it doesn't work.

I finally figured out you have to click "disabled" to make the original default theme stop showing up. Why should you have to disable it, when you're selecting the theme that should show up?

But I still can't get a new linked image to show up. I was able to upload an image and get it to work, but can't get an image link to work. That makes the process far more bothersome.

I change logo images quite often. It's one of the things that makes our forum fun. It looks like it's not going to be such fun now.

If you have it uploaded in the Logo section for the theme's images, go to Theme Manager > Settings >.

You'll find a dropdown with three choices ~ Do Not Display a Title; Display Forum Name; Display Logo. 

Choose the last option.

You'll soon be able to do it as quickly as you did in v4. It's just a little different, but once done, easy to remember and access.

Does a banner logo just have to be uploaded rather than linked now?

We have what is called a logo. That goes where your theme's images go. That can be a link or just loaded onto the board.

Then we have a banner. That's linked. 

Which is nice because you can have a logo over a banner ~ which I do in several themes.

This is still driving me nuts. I can not change my logo image in the banner with a linked image. It won't take. It always reverts back to the original logo image link. I've tried three different theme editing styles, with multiple images that I know are linkable, and it just doesn't work.

Please give the simplest step by step instruction on how to replace a linked banner log image with a new linked image logo.

First, let's be sure we're talking the same language. A logo is uploaded or linked to your images page in the theme. 

Themes > Theme Manager > Images





A banner is accessed in two places ~

Themes > Color & Scheme Manager > "Scheme" Tab.




Or in the Visual Editor under Header > Banner Image

Themes > Advanced Styles & CSS > Visual Editor

Yeah, I've got that. I'm not talking about the banner or the banner background image. I mean the logo that goes inside the banner. I can upload an image to put in the logo, but linked images will not work, even though I know they are linkable images that I made from my own website.

I haven't tried using anything else as a banner image, other than what the Proboards supplies. I'm currently using no banner image. I'm trying to use a new linked image as a logo.

By the way, it would have probably saved a lot of people a lot of headaches to not use such confusing terminology. This new version has only been in the works for about five years, but the only improvement I've seen so far is being able to post youtube videos without adding tags, and other video services. Yet a lot of practical things are gone, like having a very simple navigation bar at the bottom of the page so you don't have to constantly scroll back.

It definitely can be linked if you chose that option.


Did you go to the page above in my quote and choose "Display logo" from the dropdown? It won't display until that option is chosen. 



On another note, I felt the same way you did just two short months ago. I truly did.  I thought I loved v4 and saw no reason for the change.

Now, I love v5 and even if given the opportunity to go back, I would politely decline.

The more you get around, the more you will see how it really isn't as difficult as it first appears. And it really has some spectacular features.

I've had it on "Display logo", ever since I figured out how to select it on the first day earlier this week. It's still set that way.

Next, I go to the "Images" tab. Where the current logo is, I click "link" and paste in the link I want to use. Then I press the little arrow thing at the left of the link box. I click it again to make sure the new link is still there. So the new link should have been saved.

So I go to my forum main page. The old image is still there. I go back to the theme editor and check the link, and it has reverted back to the original.

That doesn't work, so I do it over again. This time I click the button to set the image as default. I go back to the main page and there's no logo at all. There is a text title in its place.

I go back again to the them editor and see that the dropdown has changed to show the title, not the logo. So I select "display logo." I go back again and there is nothing. I go back to theme editor again and paste the image link back in for the logo image. Go back to the main page, and there's nothing there.

For some reason it just will not accept a linked image as the new logo.

Ah. Don't press that arrow thing. If you go to the bottom of the images page, you'll see it auto saves. Don't do anything once you put in the link. You'll see at the bottom of the page, when you insert the link, it will say "saved".  You don't do a thing.

I only did that after nothing happened the first few times.

Where is the logo selection located if you use the Visual editor? There's nothing showing up.

It doesn't appear in the visual editor. Only the images section of the theme.

Clicking the arrow recycles what you've done.

Yeah, I get that. I just can't get a logo image to work as a link. Only as an upload. And even then it's a bit of a pain.
