There's a code for v4 forums to fill new messages with pre-set text and I would like to do this for a v5 forum and just brain isn't working at all lately.
v4 Code: How would I go about auto-filling new thread posts in v5 for a certain board?
*Update: I should clarify, I intend to set a template with images and tables and other fancy things not just plain text with simple BBC. And I also know that there is a plug-in for custom templates that I can set for each board but I don't know if it has the functionality that I desire. Plus I am looking to use this for 3 different templates, each on one board so having a skeleton header code where I can just stick whatever template I want in would be preferable.

Not sure if you are still looking for a way to do this but I just tried that code on a V4 site and I can't see that it does anything so I'm not sure what you are wanting. Seems the code inserts something in a post but I'm not sure. Can you give any more detail, that is if you still want this.

Yes I am still interested in this. What it does is you put whatever you want into the variable, and then set the value of the initial posting form to be filled with whatever is in that variable. You need to put the code in a board header/footer (can't exactly remember which). In the example above all it inserts is 'Insert the templatey things!' and a new line, but I plan on using full html for a bunch of character templates and such.
I was looking through the v5 code and played around with setting posting templates and then looking at the source code since I can't seem to find anything regarding posting templates in the Layout stuff. I just need something that will, when a new thread is created in a board, set the text area of the posting form to be filled with whatever it is I want for that specific board.I was, in the event that no one answered this, planning on looking into trying to grab the line that templates work off of by the name or class and then filling the value, just not sure the best way to go about doing it.

this should be relatively easy, though idk about filling in the message area when using preview mode by default, but i'll see what i can come up with.

It seems like it would be pretty easy, as the v4 one is anyways and the logic in my head when considering jquery makes me believe it. Just can't sit down and do it @.@ Many thanks for taking the time!

Still interested in this. Also an update on describing what I want...
Know how you start a new thread in the support home and it comes up with that pop-up to enter a web address. Then after hitting submit it populates the posting area with the templated 'Forum:' followed by whatever string you entered. I want that, but without the pop-up step. Instead it would be grabbing only a preset set of bbc and throwing it down. Would only be used for a board like the support home is doing.

I'd suggest Predetermined Post Drop Down rather than Custom Templates Plugin, unless I'm misunderstanding the plugin.

I'd suggest Predetermined Post Drop Down rather than Custom Templates Plugin, unless I'm misunderstanding the plugin. Or that, though it leaves the onus on the poster to select said template, rather than having it be default.

I looked at that plugin and mentioned it in the first post. Is it able to do divs of various complication and images, tables..? I just see simple text and styling.

Much appreciated everyone for your help. If anyone has used the plugin and knows if it can or not I would appreciate the info too Will have to find some time to sit down and play with it then; in the near future hopefully.
