Okay, sorry, I'd been working on my forum for hours and it was 5 a.m. so I was loopy by that point. This morning, I went through and read every single post in this thread.

Before I continue, let me just say I absolutely love this plugin! Secondly, I know absolutely zero about plugin coding so I apologize if any of my questions cause face-palming.

I think I may have ended up making a change to the username of the first two after I decided how I wanted them to show. I'd noticed that when you hover over the name, it shows the username so the fact that it led to the bio of the character, I decided to add 'Profile' to the end of the username to make it easier for people to realize that the link led to the actual bio thread of the character and not the person's forum profile.

After reading over the whole thread, here are my new questions:

1. Is there a way to know the space we've used up so far for the plugin or should I avoid doing more than 15 or 16? If I go over, will it mess up the coding of all the rest and will it simply be fixed just by deleting the one alter that pushed it over the limit?

2. Does the expansion fit the same amount?

3. We have multiple RPGs and a ton of characters so if we use up all the space in the original and the expansion, is there a way to get more? Can the expansion plugin be added twice or more?

so you are clear on how the username works then? its supposed to be a one time thing, just like a regualr account. by changing it, you unlinked those test posts.

if you try to go over the plugin allowed size, I have no idea what actually happens, but I am under the impression it just wont let you save. and because all of that is in the admin section, a plugin cant run on it to size it all out. in the headers/footers section of this support board I posted a code that will help you determine sizes from an icon in the PB bar in the bottom right corner. that will help with an approximate.

the expansion fits about the same, maybe one extra since its JUST alter data. I havent tried multiple.. but can you load multiple versions of the same plugin? I have never tried.

No idea if multiple versions of a plugin can be run but I'll give it a try. Thanks for all your help!


Update: I tried uploading the Extension Plugin a second time.  It gave me a message saying it already exists and asked if I want to replace it.  I just said yet but then there were two Alter Extensions listed in my Plugins.  I put one character into each to test it but one of them didn't appear in the dropdown.  Ah well.

If you somehow get up to the point you need an additional extension, let me know and I will get you a new one with a different name so it doesnt collide with the first one.

I can't seem to make this plugin work. 

I can add characters, and once you get on a thread, there is the option to choose an alter, but when you do, the reply doesn't actually come from the alter. It still comes from the Original User. 

Any way to fix this?

did you give the alters their unique usernames? did you change the key permissions?

I did give them unique usernames. I changed the permissions to Members & Staff. (I also tried changing them to Everyone, but that didn't work either.)

When you view the threads in the category, the 'last post by -name-' shows as the Alters name, but when you actually go into the thread the name that displays is the Original User, and the picture/avatar is the original as well. 

Also, as a side note, I use a TON of your plugins on my site, and they are all fantastic. I will be putting you in our "Shameless Plugs" board to advertise your stuff, because a lot of the people on my forum have forums of their own, for our Live Action Roleplaying Games. Your stuff is awesome.

ok.. that little bit more of info helps.

you are likely masking the post count in your mini-profiles, and the code is mad it cant find it. so add this into your mini-fprofile template:

<span style="display:none">Posts: $[user.posts]</span>

First I want to say that your plugin is absolutely amazing. It's my favorite and I really enjoy using it on the rp site I help staff. But, unfortunately, we're having some issues that I just don't know how to fix.

I've been using the plugin on the site for at least a few months now without any bugs at all. Then, suddenly, it seemed like half the alters stopped working. I figured that something might have corrupted in either the mini profile or the plug-in itself so I reset them both. Now all the alters are gone instead of half of them. Also, I managed to get one to semi-work, but it only shows up under recent posts and when I go to the actual thread itself we're back to my original mini profile. Do you have any idea how I could fix this?

I know it's not a number issue. I already double checked that since that's a common user error. I think I might be having issues with the unique usernames. Because they were there, and then they weren't. xD Butyeah. If you have any ideas that would be amazing.

when they stopped working, was it because that was when you inserted unique usernames? none of the alters share a username right?

do some of the older posts by alters not link now that usernames are in there?

when you make new posts with alters now, do they link up?

I'm pretty sure half of them stopped working because the unique usernames were taken out and left blank? None of them shared a username when they had them.

Nothing is linking currently, but when we put in the usernames the posts still linked up. Originally.

Um, actually, it depends. I've been testing it and I still can't get it to work. However, one of our members used his alter and it worked. But it is currently the only one on the site working. Also, our admin account user can see all of the alters where the rest of us can't. I have no idea what's going on because the permissions are set to be visible to everyone.

go ahead and put back in the usernames into the alter fields. the code was changed at one point to use the usernames instead of the display names because people kept changing the display names and it was unlinking the posts. so I put in the usernames as something that shouldnt change so the posts would stay.

if you then have posts that arent linked because they were made with a displayname isntead, I can get you something that will help you relink them. but it cant scan the whole forum, it would have to be done on a post by post basis. you should also be able to just edit that post and re-save to have it put the username back in.

Oh! Alright, that makes sense. I put back the usernames, however, they're still not showing up. =/ I have no idea why.

Do you think you could send me the linking thing? So I could try that? That would be great.

what about on new posts? are they showing then?

did you possibly edit the mini profile so that post count isnt normal?
