jmmreviews, Can you tell me what you want different with what Smudges gave you? To me, what ?1d??x? gave you and the example of "how the forum could look" are very much the same. You also mentioned you want members to be able to add to it and then you said administrators. You also said as the administrator you don't want a lot of work involved so I take it you want it automated. I appreciate ?1d??x? thinking I might be able to help but I'm not real confident I can. I guess answering my above queries will help me think this out or someone else might have some ideas. The more details the better. Edit: I'm moving this to the template board as this is for forums that still have V4 and this board is going to be history very soon. That way, more people that might be able to help will see this.

Tumbleweed thanks for moving the thread and getting back to me, ?1d??x? didnt give me a code just a screen shot of what his code looks like. I then took his screenshot and used photoshop to make a mock up of "what my website could look like". The reason I made the mock up image was to show that we could still keep the "Forum Wrapper" I think over all this would make it easier to code and I would still keep my theme and Shoutbox on my homepage and it doesnt feel like a different website. I work in a design background and know a little about coding but I would have no idea how to make it automated, it is maybe something that cant even be done. ?1d??x? talked about copy and pasting chunks of code each time you post and I am fine with that if that is how it must be done. When I say I would like members to be able to add to the blog I am happy to do this on their behalf i.e. they write the story or make a video and as an administrator I post it to the news page but there could be a tag with the members name to show who wrote it with a link to their profile. The blog posts will probably all link to my forum anyway but I would love for the blog to be a little interactive do you think it would be possible to have a comment box on each blog post so members can reply? If not I will just link it to the forum and people can comment there. If you think you can help that would be great. Thanks JMM

O.K. I've just got around to thinking about this and you do have the widgets available to any any post that you can add to your custom page. So if a member posts something cool, you can add it to your custom page. Would that work? It really doesn't take long to add it. Here I have it on my test site: (didn't make it my home page) eltest.proboards.com/page/HPIn the html editor on the custom page, to get it to pick up theme colors I just added this with zone1 in the middle there. <style> .widget-specific-post-buttons{display:none; } .my_main_page{padding: 10px; } </style> <div class="container boards"> <div class="title-bar bbcode"><h2><div class="title_wrapper"><b>Lastest Posts</b></div></h2></div> <div class="content cap-bottom"> <div class="my_main_page"> $[zone_1]
</div> </div> </div>
Save that. Maybe you already know this, but then it is just a matter of going to the post you want to feature on your custom page and using the gear option, select link to post and then get the number. In my case those two posts are 66 and 67. Then you go back to your custom page, Visual Editor, and on the widget drop down select display post, enter the number in there. My case, 66. I didn't add titles to mine but you can if you want. And that's it. A note, I have some css there that hides the options to reply to posts. You can remove that if you want your members to be able to click to reply to it but I thought it looked stupid on my page. I don't know if that would work for you or not? I'm afraid I'm just not savvy enough on how to just have an automated system where it just picks up recent posts and you need to do nothing other then set it up to do that.

Hi Tumbleweed I have a style question, the code you give me above works great for keeping my forum theme but what if I wanted a white background within the widget? Here is a quick test page I made jmmreview.co.uk/page/hometest2As you can see it is blue to match my forum colour but without having to change my theme how would I change that background colour to white? Thanks

Thanks I'm still fairly new at custom pages myself, but on a couple of my test sites I tested just using the zones but mine is set up a bit different. I think if you want the background behind your zones (the bigger part that encompasses the zones) white you'd add the blue to your css part: (I think that might also change the zones background color too but as I said, mine is set up differently than yours. .container.boards div{ background-color: #ffffff; }but if you just want to change the little zones background to white and leave the bigger part behind them the blue then you'd just add this to your css style: #zone_1,#zone_2,#zone_3{ background-color: #ffffff; }Let me know if that works for you.

Hmmm this seems to be more complex than I first thought, changing the container white also changes the bar at the top to white. jmmreview.co.uk/page/hometest2Maybe I would need to add a code for that bar to be black too?

Whoops, well remove that and just add the background color to this: .my_main_page{padding: 10px; background-color: #ffffff;
}

Hey Tumbleweed that worked for the background jmmreview.co.uk/page/hometest2 But now the container is blue I tried my best to make it white be nothing I tried worked. Sorry I am still a bit new to Java This is the code I am using if that helps <style> .widget-specific-post-buttons{display:none; } .my_main_page{padding: 10px;background-color: #ffffff; } } </style> <div class="container boards"> <div class="title-bar bbcode"><h2><div class="title_wrapper"><b>Lastest Posts</b></div></h2></div> <div class="content cap-bottom"> <div class="my_main_page"> <br style="clear: both;" /> <div style="float: left; width: 60%;"> <div style="padding-right: 5px;">$[zone_1]</div> </div> <div style="float: left; width: 40%;"> <div style="padding-left: 5px;">$[zone_2]</div> </div> <br style="clear: both;" /> Edit: It seems to be that I cant change the colour of the widget background because the HTML box on the right is fine.

Odd that your zones are ending up inside each other like that.
But to the question at hand. Did you try adding the zones part of the css I posted. I should think that should work except looks like you'll only need zone1 and 2.
#zone_1,#zone_2{ background-color: #ffffff; }

That is what I tried, I think what is happening is the widget is getting its colour from my theme so I would have to change my theme colours to change the widget?

Well, dang. Since my custom page is different, I can't test it but the next logical class would be this:
.pbcpe-zone.container > .content{ background-color: #ffffff;
}

Like this? <style> .widget-specific-post-buttons{display:none; } } .pbcpe-zone.container > .content{ background-color: #ffffff; } .my_main_page{padding: 10px;background-color: #ffffff; } </style> <div class="container boards"> <div class="title-bar bbcode"><h2><div class="title_wrapper"><b>Lastest Posts</b></div></h2></div> <div class="content cap-bottom"> <div class="my_main_page"> <br style="clear: both;" /> <div style="float: left; width: 60%;"> <div style="padding-right: 5px;">$[zone_1]</div> </div> <div style="float: left; width: 40%;"> <div style="padding-left: 5px;">$[zone_2]</div> </div> <br style="clear: both;" /> It didnt work, I can imagine this stuff (partially java) can be quite abstract, especially when you dont have access to see what you are doing (I can make you an admin if you like) But you have already spent a lot of time on it so dont worry too much about it, if it really bugs me I will change my theme colours and that will change the widget I think. Thanks for your time
