Peter, yes my apologies my theme is very customized =/ I gave you power to look in the admin panel if that helps at all. I added the new code but it doesn't appear to be working, either. I logged into an account that I haven't logged into for a long time, certainly long before the latest post was made on the site, and I'm not seeing any New show up. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Looking at my site now it doesn't have the time variable for the latest post in the info center. I'm guessing that would be a problem xD I'll add the variable in and see if that fixes it
EDIT: added the variable $[last_updated_thread.last_post.created_on] to the info center but it still doesn't appear to be working in my testing =/

Should be working now. It doesn't rely on anything to do with timestamps, it just looks for the new icon. Because you had a custom theme and some code that altered the structure as well, I had to change my code a little.
I also fixed 1 JS error coming from another code. There is another one coming from a plugin, but I don't have time to look at that.
