Chat room plug in request.

I have looked though the data base and have not been able to find a chat plug in that will let the members of the forum open chat rooms and talk via private messages while logged in. I am a member of another forum group that has not yet gotten off the ground but they have a chat program installed on theirs that's pretty much what I am thinking about.

It would permit people to chat like they would in chat rooms on AIM/MSN,YAhoo ect.

Below are the images taken from an E107 message board. I am clueless on what the name of the plug in is called.


You can see the user chat face at the bottom of the forum page here.


Clicking on the online users pulls up the list of members loged in to the site.


Clicking on the chat room button pulls up the section where you can make a chat room or join one that's already open for the members. This can be for just group chat or TBL (turn based logic) text RP


Her you see what the chat room would look like what's its been set up. Members will see the chat room listed if its a public room so they can join in as well.

I am looking for this type of plug in for a Game of Thrones RP I am running. Any help would be marvelous. Or pointing me to one that is already there that I may have missed.

Its not a proboards site.  The owner has built it herself uploading an e107 message board and designing it herself

Ahh, then I'm really not sure it'd be possible on proboards. There are plenty of things on other sites that are translatable, I thought you saw it on a proboards forum. We'll have to wait and see if a plugin creator responds.

That goes to a separate page isolating it from the forum really. We had that type of set up at our old site and nobody used it for that reason.

I added it to the sidebar redux. But I think members had to join that chat site to be able to use it while at proboards. No sure how that will go over with my members yet. But its easy enough to remove if they want to join the chat site.

I just noticed that this thread says completed. Why? No one will even try to implement one that is usable on the forum if it says completed. I certainly don't want some chat that sits separate from the rest of the forum.

a plugin will not be able to realistically emulate a LIVE chatroom. such a thing would require constant refreshes of whatever storage. writing something like a chartoom will involve external storage and someone willing to write up the PHP or similar interface to that storage. and the number of repliers to the past numerous requests for things of this nature was akin to finding a 3 in a field of 8.

I marked it completed because the link Sossity provided is the best current solution.

Cbox.ws is by far the best chatbox to use, in my personal opinion, though it doesn't allow any private conversations like the OP was looking for. But it keeps you on the site, any registering you decide to do (which is at the admin's discretion via how they set their settings up) stays on the site in just a neat little pop-up, it matches any site if you fit it transparent or adjust the colors to your liking, it's highly customizable through total-access to the CSS, it will auto-refresh if you buy the premi which isn't a lot, it's got a ban/delete option, and unlike some obnoxious options out there it doesn't log you out based on your activity or anything like that. Obviously there are more options but those are the main ones to me. If interested, anyone reading should check it out. But in regards to the OP with the private chatting, I have no other solutions besides the ones already mentioned. As Wormo said, a live chat like you guys are looking for is not a plugin, it's not plugin capable, and you'll need to find a suitable third-part host for it, like the ones already given.

Thanks, I'm looking at that one right now.

The one I linked to above, allows for private chat, has many of the features you mentioned and it too has other features for a fee. But, I still want to check out the one you mentioned.

I checked out that CBox and it looks like people can change their names and post, so you could have people stirring up trouble under different names. I don't like that. Plus too many options required the paid upgrade.

I'll agree with blc here, after disabling the shoutbox a lng time ago and testing over 30 chatboxes, yourshoutbox seems the best for free
ones (although I have no probs paying) but for testing yourshoutbox came up tops

The only thing I noticed was that the CBox you could reduce the width more and with the yourshoutbox, the narrowest it could be was 200. Its certainly a worthy chat to look at.

i wish i could just use the AJAX chat, its the best one i know and its free, but what the heck?! why import things easily?! ask for a .pbp file! how do you even make a .pbp file?!
