Have you created at least one NPC and set it so you can use it? If yes, you should see the little sword (1) on the lower right in the PBN bar (the area with the little icons to switch accounts and forums); and (2) when creating new threads or doing a Reply. It doesn't show in the Quick Reply that I'm aware of. Bottom right of screen: When creating a thread or using Reply (not Quick Reply):

Brian, I know that you have to give an NPC an "username". What I'm wondering is, can it be target in a template, such as: {if $[user.username] == "neytiri"]}
where neytiri is the username of the NPC in the plugin. I'm thinking of doing some template mods, but need to know if an NPC's "username" can be targeted. If not, no worries - only curious is all. Thanks!

Brian I have a question, If I use an NPC profile will it still count towards my total post count? and I have to set every group under the " who can use this plugin " tab to get it to work, setting a group under who can use the NPC doesn't just work, do I have to set each group under who can use this plugin? what would I do if I want regular users who aren't in a group to use the plugin?

where neytiri is the username of the NPC in the plugin. I'm thinking of doing some template mods, but need to know if an NPC's "username" can be targeted. If not, no worries - only curious is all. Thanks! Plugins and templates are completely separate. An NPC cannot be targeted within a template as the NPC you're seeing is literally just Javascript running client-side in your browser to mask the appearance of a post and is not an actual "user" on the forum. The forum software itself has no concept of what an NPC is. Yes. Since you're still making the post under your account your post count will be incremented which is why you're attributed as the author of the post in the NPC's signature. Setting who can view the plugin determines whether or not the plugin runs at all on their end, meaning that if they can't view the plugin NPCs won't exist on your forum on their end at all. The easiest way to set NPC permissions within the plugin is to create a hidden group named after each NPC, then add that group as the only group allowed to use that NPC in its permissions. Then all you have to do is add users to the group named after the NPC to enable them to use it. The plugin was designed for staff use. This was to solve the issue of multiple staff needing access to a specific NPC account on RP forums without violating the part of the Terms of Service that forbids account sharing.

I kind of thought that would be the case. It's why I haven't done anything yet to the templates. Thanks for the confirmation, Brian!

Brian I was wondering if there is any way to turn off the thing in the signature that states who the author is? I'm the only one using the NPC profiles on my forum anyway. also Brian I was wondering if there was a way we could use bbcode in our group titles for the NPC ( just like we can with regular group titles )

That would require the author of the plugin to completely reproduce the BBCode functionality of the forum from the ground up.

Hello ^^ I tried to look around and found the answer to one of my questions but even then it didn't work. I can not get the username to work properly, it just drops down, for example the user name here is "Cougar" I also want to change the Posted by to the name of the NPC. I went to home and tried to find $[last_updated_thread.last_post.created_by] but the closest thing I found was $[last_updated_thread.last_post.created_by_user] and when I changed that to what was said on page one nothing changed. Thank you in advance ^_^

clemie : I'm not sure what you mean by "it just drops down". Their username will never show in the mini-profile unless you specifically place the $[user.username] variable somewhere in its HTML. Both of the variables you listed in your post perform the same function, but the created_by_user variant is the older alias of that variable which was replaced by the ProBoards developers with just created_by a while after v5's release. With that in mind you should be able to replace the created_by_user one that you found.

This plugin isn't working on the theme Blue-Inked Parchment, and despite trying all the codes it still doesn't show the NPC or the username in the thread. (It does show in the forum though.) The little sword icon is also only available on the editing page, but trying to use it doesn't do anything. Send help? ;~;
