The issue I see is that you cant just fetch the list of "who liked" from a post. it would be a great feature request to be able to fetch a list or at least send an id and get back a true or false.
you could try storing the user-id of every person that clicks the like button, but that will have limits. and in order to push in the ids of newer "likers" you would have to purge older ones. which means if they came back to the thread they would have to unlike and re-like in order to see the attachment again. you could try to go the route of using a user key to store the post id of every liked post.. but that would fill up even faster.

In this case would you really need the entire list of likers or just an indication that the user currently viewing the post has liked this post? If the latter then that can be quickly determined by inspecting the like button for the class of liked. A click handler on that button could then serve to do the meat of the work by looking for that particular class on the button and hide/show as appropriate (or perhaps even suppress ability to unlike once liked). Once upon a time, I had created a plugin that manipulated the like feature and remember requesting clarification on using the AJAX call that fetches the list of likers. The answer, as I interpreted it at the time, was if the feature is available on the page (even if it uses AJAX) then a plugin can avail itself of that feature as well provided it is initiated through a user's action (the same principle employed by most popup blockers ). I later reassessed my interpretation after Tim suggested using a WYSIWYG call on a page where it was not normally available to "available to the user" instead of "available on the page". This point might be important when Wormo creates the plugin...

thats actually a good point. the like button itself provides the functionality of fetching if the current viewer has already liked.
thats why YOU are the oracle.

Just adding that I've already ( 99% ) already written this some time ago but never got round to releasing it, which is why I asked where it was from. Maybe it's sneaked out through a back door or someone else has already written it.
